love
Love: a strong positive emotion of regard and affection
Philos: love based on friendship between two people
Eros: Erotic love
Agape: Unconditional love
breaking it down further there is affection and friendship that I usually put under Philos. Under Eros; infatuation, sexual love, passionate love, and romantic love. Under Agape, platonic love and committed love.
I would say the perfect relationship has a healthy balance of all the above classifications of love.
Since any loving relationship has to be based on that first, then if you're questioning what it is, or why people go through with it, then break it down to its core or foundation of Philos or friendship and look at it.
I've often wondered lately, why should I even open up my mouth to say anything to someone. It's not necessary. You don't need it to survive, biologically at least.
Maybe what you ought to examine for your answer is just what place there is for friendship in life, yours specifically, and how in your past experiences has that in turn developed into love?
Love's just a little something extra that we inexplicably slap on.
