My dad trapped me in a very mean way. A little explanation before I tell the story:
El Salvador. Country where my parents were born. My heritage. Now...I haven't been there...in nine years. Because I hate it there. It's too hot for comfort, and I'm more picky about food than usual, since I tend to get sick kind of easily. And I don't speak fluent Spanish, since I dislike the language. I suffer there.
The story:
I was bored the other day, so my dad asked me if I wanted to go along with him to Berkley to pick up my niece form her mom's house. I went along with him. Somewhere over the Richmond bridge, he said "If everything goes well, would you like to go to El Salvador..."
At this point, My Reject Reflex is ready to spring, and he knows it. but I don't say anything, rather think They haven't given up on this yet? while looking out the window at the bay. This took about a second, and he finished:
"In November, with [Kage]?"
I froze.
Dad still think my Reject Reflex is about to kick, when in fact, I feel like I'm caught in the middle of some odd paradox: I hate El Salvador, but I love Kage, and never get to see him. If I don't go with him, I don't know when I'll see him again...but I hate El Salvador.
So, thinking I'm about to flat out say "no", dad hurries on. "you can go to the beach and hang out in the saltwater pools..." and I just kind of fuzzed out at that point (right after thinking But I hate the beach...).
My decision: Blah. I...I guess I'll go. I mean, I don't get to see Kage. Goddesses, I'm missing him so much right now...
The point is that my dad knew how to trap me. and it was pretty mean...blah.
