Triforce-Kun is an atheist through and through. This doesn't mean I'm a pompous a**. This doesn't mean I hate you if you're religious. It most definitely doesn't mean I'm going to attack your beliefs and try to make you feel like an idiot. I will never talk about religion unless the topic is brought up somehow (or something else in my life at the time prompted it), and even then, I will usually skirt around the issue. I'd rather not talk about it. I do not like debates on religion. This is not because I don't have any backing on my own beliefs (science, which I love), but rather because it's a topic that can easily get out of hand, and even become hurtful. Think about it: how do you feel when someone is telling you that everything you believe is wrong? When they're crushing what you've always held onto as your truth?

It sucks, doesn't it?

So I try to avoid any kind of rude, disrespectful behavior. Sure, I still swear like any teenager would, and I say things like "goddamn", and some things religious people may find offensive. But hey, that's because it's what I say. It's not meant as a personal attack on anyone, it's just how I speak. IRL, I try to avoid swearing as much as possible around those who are religious (or whose parents may disapprove, which is usually the case). If I find out someone is religious, I will not shun them. I will not try to disprove their beliefs. I will simply state where I stand, in a usually awkward manner ( "well, er, ya see...I'm kind of an atheist." ). I will then leave the topic be.

In short, I let you believe what you want to believe. whatever you hold as true, it is not my place to criticize or speak down upon. You can think whatever you like, and I'll think what I do, and we can have a great time together anyways never even having to talk about such things.

So, all I'm asking is that, while I let you think what you like, and while I respect your boundaries, I'd like this level of respect back. Most often, people do respect me in return, but I've had a few occasions where people have told me flat out "evolution is a lie, it's stupid, it's impossible" when I never said a word against them. Why? I was being nice, can't you be nice, too? I do not like it when people try to tear apart what I hold as my truth. I'm very sad, in fact, that it's become so bad that I had to write this up in the first place.

Really, people...what happened to mutual respect?
