I find them very helpful.
Tip #1:
Listen to music that pertains to your topic, character, and/or mood.
If it is a battle, or your character is bloodthirsty, I recommend bands like the GazettE or Dir en Grey, or the song Rosa Rubicundior, Lilio Candidior by Kentaro Ito [Abarai Renji]
If your character is young and/or hyper, and the mood is happy, listen to songs like Doki Doki Waku Waku by Saitou Ayaka [Sohma Momiji and Hunney]
You may have a different idea for music that pertains to these things, but that's okay, everyone's opinion is different.
