Keep away heart
By: Ciarra Bryson (a pen pal of mine)
It's five o'clock and there's no one to care
Reaching for the top shelf of herself but her toes and arms can only go so far
She can't reach her heart, she can't reach her heart
She's lost that part
Tracing her fingers hesitantly with her thumbs
Waiting for that just-missed moment 'cause it's too late to turn and run
Let's hide away, let's hide away
Trying to find the words "It'll be ok"
She hasn't seen what love has to offer
Secretly she can't help to be bothered
It's that thing called knees and how she's always on them
It's the chorus chiding from her mouth; "remorse" and it falls on deaf ears
It's that thing called hope that no one hears
Spinning and winding is that tiny strand of forgiveness
(It will be taken back soon enough though)
No longer hanging from her finger and
It's the reason why she won't risk this
Let's stop and stay around
Who knows what can be found
We're just the key to unlock your heart, one mistake, one disaster each
Weakness is threatening to take over and still she can't reach
Threading a needle with a thread and where's the thimble
It's plain and simple
So tie that red ribbon around your wrist and hope you never ever forget
"It's these unadorned memories that are surrendered"
Try to remember the way her mouth held onto that taste
Teeth meeting and chaste lips to erase
It's us that will remain in this place
Guessing that caused her to surpass the confines
"Wouldn't you like to break your life?"
Edged and rigged and torn apart
She'll never reach her Keep Away Heart
