Miroku set Seiko down on the ground and then turned to walk over to Sumi and Jaken when Kagome screamed.
"EEEEEEEKK! SHE'S DEAD!"
Sumi knelt down in front of Kagome, trying to comfort her. "No, no, it's okay, she's just unconscious... She'll be fine..."
Kagome, not comforted by Sumi's words, became hysterical and began to hiccup as she cried. Sango started to cry, too, making InuYasha and Sesshoumaru roll their eyes.
"Feh. Girls."
As Miroku quickly bandaged his own arm, Jaken inspected Seiko's injuries. There was a large gash in her side, bleeding heavily. He then began digging through the stuff they had with them, muttering to himself. He finally emerged from the bags holding a sword.
"Here, try this," he said, handing it to Miroku. "It's Lord Sesshoumaru's Tensaiga. It'll help heal your wounds."
Miroku looked at the sword slightly confused, not knowing quite what to do with it. He walked over to where Seiko was and looked from her wounds to the sword and back again. He waved it in the air above her expiramentally. Nothing happened.
"Abra Kadabra!" he said as he waved it again. Still, nothing happened. "In the name of Buddha, work your magic!" The sword did nothing. It almost seemed to be mocking him.
Sesshoumaru walked over to the monk. "Amateur. Let a demon show you how it's done." Miroku would've resented this comment, had Seiko not been in a life-or-death situation and Sesshoumaru had not been an adorably cute little five-year-old. Sesshoumaru walked over to Seiko, clumsily carrying the sword, and held it out, in a way that he hoped was dramatic (which was hard to do, considering the sword was made for an adult, not a five-year-old), and paused, as if looking for something. Then he slashed the sword through the air.
Nothing happened.
The young youkai tried again, but still, the sword refused to do its work. The five-year-old sat down on the ground and began throwing a temper tantrum.
~~~~~~~
That night around the campfire, the mood was solemn. Kagome and Sango were still crying, under the impression Seiko was dead, although Miroku and Sumi both reported her still breathing after each time they checked on her to change her bandages.
"Sh-sh-she's gonna die!" Kagome wailed. "I just know it!"
Sumi hugged her, trying to get her to calm down. "It's alright, she's not going to die. Shhh... don't cry..."
"She's not waking up! Kagome's right-- she's gonna die!" Sango wailed.
"She is not going to die," Miroku said.
The two little girls argued that she would, they just knew it, and then they'd have to have a funeral and be sad for the rest of their lives.
"Look," Miroku said, "if I say she's not going to die, she's not going to die! And that's final!"
Sesshoumaru was still standing over where Seiko was, trying to get the Tensaiga to work. InuYasha was sitting nearby, laughing at his brother.
"'Let a demon show you how it's done,'" he said, mocking Sesshoumaru. "I'm still waiting to see 'how it's done.'"
"Shut up, little brother." Sesshoumaru had been in a bad mood all afternoon. Now that he had made that comment about being able to save her, he had to keep trying. But after a few more tries he had begun to wonder why he was trying to save this hanyou's life. She was worthless... wasn't she? After all, she WAS only half-demon. He finally got frustrated and started throwing another temper tantrum, which only made InuYasha laugh harder.
