Welcome to Earth...
Part Nine: Battles and Babies
"Oh. My. God. This is so boring. We do the same freakin' thing every freakin' day," Seiko said as they walked down the road the next day. "Walk, walk, walk, someone has an accident. Someone pokes me. Maybe a little sibling rivalry. Why can't we have a different day?"

As Miroku started to reply, he was cut off by a loud crashing nearby, followed by a demon's roar. He started to run in that direction, but as Seiko began to follow, he said, "No. You stay here."

"WHY?"

He put a hand on her stomach. "Think of the baby..."

"I AIN'T PREGNANT!" she said as she slapped him.

He sighed and rubbed the side of his face. "Oh, sorry. Just wishful thinking."

"I'll give you wishful thinking..."

He was saved from further slapping as the roar sounded again, closer. The monk and hanyou ran off in that direction, each trying to be better than the other.

Sumi and Jaken were left with the kids.

"Where they goin'?" Sango asked.

"They're just going to protect us from the big bad demon over there," Sumi replied.

"Ohhhhhh... I wanna watch!"

"No, no, Sango. You have to stay here."

"Miss Lady Ma'am," Sesshoumaru said, pulling on her sleeve. "Where do babies come from?"

Sumi's face drained of color.

"So..." Sesshoumaru said, cocking his head to one side, "there's a stork... that carries babies to their mommies?"

Sumi nodded, smiling hopefully. Please, let this work...

"But what about the demon babies?"

Her face fell. "What?"

"Aren't some demon babies a lot bigger and heavier than storks? And what if the stork died?"

Sumi groaned and answered their questions, after thinking through them. She explained that the demon babies were carried by demon storks, and that the chance of the stork dying was very low.

Sesshoumaru didn't think this was a very good explanation, but said he understood, saving Sumi from any further discussions, much to her relief.

By now, nearly half an hour had passed since Seiko and Miroku had gone after the demon. "Do you think they're all right?" Sumi said, looking over at Jaken.

The frog-like creature shrugged. "I don't know...."

A few minutes later, Miroku returned, a few scratches on his face and a large gash on his left arm, carrying an unconscious Seiko over his shoulder.
