Guess what I LEARNED!??! :"D |

Well, I've obviously liked eighties songs... still do... but I caught sight of this special they're doing on VH1 or MTV... I don't even know anymore, since I don't regularly watch those channels. >.<
It was, like... top one hundred eighties songs. X3
One of them was Straight up by Paula Abdul, and another was 99 LuftBalloons/99 Red Balloons. Why do these things interest me so damned much? You know why? It's because of the musical aspect and the history aspect. Some of these songs are only twenty six years old, but that's still a fairly long time! Oh god, Little Red Corvette and Kiss by Prince were both on the list! XD (Well, I really like Kiss. It makes me laugh, but at the same time I do think it's a really cool, slightly sexy song. X3 It's a very danceable number, what can I say? X3 Little Red Corvette... slightly creeps me out until it gets to the chorus where it SOUNDS cute, but I know it only gets worse than ever. XD Silly metaphors! XD)
But yeah-the point. XD I wanted to find the lyrics to some of the songs I learned about while watching some of the episodes of this particular little series, but the thing is I've already forgotten the names of some of the songs I wanted to look up! >.< There was something about the lyrics I wanted to know, too, so this majorly sucks. DX
BUT I DID remember Straight Up by Paula Abdul (I really just like the song, and don't really care TOO much about the lyrics, even though this song is really cool to dance to also, if you're a dance. X3 Lots of room for self expression through dance in this one. X3) and 99 Red Balloons.
Apparently, the German version was actually the more popular one. The frontwoman for Nena is still unclear, I think, as to why Americans responded so much better to the original German version of the song as opposed to the English version they'd made just for us to understand! XD
It's funny because I've heard this song before, heard the name (as Ninety Nine Red Balloons, granted, but I had known the name if only subconsciously. XD I forget names of songs from time to time, but I'm almost always hopeless when it comes to artists. XD Then again, I knew about Pete Burns' attempt at becoming a woman, and I only know him as the frontwo... man of a ban who sang You Spin Me Round (Like A Record). XD)...
... ANYWAY, I'd heard the name, and I'd liked the song, but I never really understood the lyrics, and thought it was an optimistic or even rebellious little song. XD
Rebellious? It's about freakin' WAR! XD
Hoo... but that's why I wanted to find the lyrics for 99 Red Balloons. n_n;
... but first, Straight Up! X3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lost in a dream I don't know which way to go A-let me say, if you are all that you seem Then, baby, I'm movin' way too slow I've been fooled before Wouldn't like to get my love Caught in the slammin' door How about some information, please?
(Chorus smile Straight up, now tell me Do you really wanna love me forever Oh, oh, oh Or am I caught in a hit-and-run? Straight up, now tell me Is it gonna be you and me together Oh, oh, oh Or are you just havin' fun?
Time's standing still Waiting for some small clue A-let me tell you now, I keep getting chills When I think your love is true I've been fooled before Wouldn't like to get my love Caught in the slammin' door How about some information, please?
(Repeat chorus)
(Bridge 1 smile You are so hard to read You play hide-and-seek With your true intentions If you're only playin' games I'll just have to say A b-b-b-bye, b-b-b-bye
(Bridge 2 smile Do, do you love me? (Do, do you love me, baby?) Do, do you love me? (Do, do you love me? A-hey, baby) Do, do you love me? (Do, do you love me, baby?) Do, do you love me? (Do, do you love me?) A-tell me, baby
I've been a fool before Wouldn't like to get my love Caught in the slammin' door Are you more than hot for me Or am I a page in your history book? I don't mean to make demands But the word and the deed Go hand in hand How about some information, please?
(Repeat chorus until fade)

Okay, I'm done with that now onto what ACTUALLY matters for now...
99 Red Balloons by Nena! X3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and I in a little toy shop Buy a bag of balloons With the money we've got Set them free at the break of dawn 'Til one by one, they were gone Back at base, bugs in the software Flash the message "Something's out there" Floating in the summer sky 99 red balloons go by
99 red balloons Floating in the summer sky Panic bells, it's red alert There's something here From somewhere else The war machine springs to life Opens up one eager eye Focusing it on the sky Where 99 red balloons go by
99 Decision Street 99 ministers meet To worry, worry, super-scurry Call the troops out in a hurry This is what we've waited for This is it boys, this is war The president is on the line As 99 red balloons go by
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mind you, I may have learned that it was about a war, but I'm still unclear as to what ninety nine red balloons have anything to do with war... were they sent as a distraction?! O_O; Or are they a metaphor for war planes? Or were they a symbol of how, in war times, even innocent things receive reactions more suitable to Public Enemy #1?
This song is kind of innocently funny in the melody it's sung to... to me, it gives off this attitude like you're watching all this panic in quiet amusement. "Oh, look at what a number of balloons just short of a hundred in number do to military personnel! What fun! X3"
... Yeeeah... XD
... I'm gonna see if the shows that actually mattered recorded at all, but I'll save that for later on today, when I wake up... again..
I've been awake for some time over an hour (since like... five thirty ish, I think. I'm pretty sure that's when I woke up from those weird dreams... the Island waitressing job, the classroom, the 'face painting' and someone painting their face to five it the appearance of V's mask... XD V for Vendetta-I've never seen the movie myself, so I don't even know HOW that one character came into my subconscious! XD
Couldn't go to the temple without painting my face, so the teacher made me stay behind in class to paint my face with the white, black, and red chalk. I can't remember too much of what I did aside for two specific things: I used the black chalk to make 'dark circles' under my eyes (I filled out the bags of my eyes. That's all I did. >.< wink then used it to make a rectangle on my cheek below my right eye. I took the red chalk and put it over my left eye like an earth-craggy scar. It was at this point that the teacher came back in and asked me if I was FINALLY ready to head off, so I quickly put on a bit of the white talk on my face, ignoring the designs, and we were supposed to be seeing that haunted temple, climbing up those long a** steps which, in the dream, I had looked forward to in an almost sadistic manner. XD At this moment, it still looks appealing to me-climbing all the way up those stairs. HOwever, I would want to rest from landing to landing, or even on the stairs at points when I get tired! I'm not THAT sadistic, and I am lazy. XD However, I would STILL want to climb those stairs regardless of my laziness. XD I just... wouldn't want to try to do so within a time limit. That's what ******** me up and makes me hate it. I like taking my time, damnit... I'm a slow gal. XD
(So help me, if any Ko Gal jokes come out of that... *laughs* I'm my own inside joke... and I feel fine! XD)
It just sucks that this dream of all dreams woke me up before I could really get to enjoy it. My dreams were just plain weird before this one, and this one had the opportunity to change that and give it real substance.> Why did I wake up before we could get to the cool part!?
Then again, knowing how weird and interlocked and yet choppy my dreams are, I bet we would never have gone up those ritualistic stairs in the first place. DX It was a freaking history class, and that was our field trip-going up those long a** stairs to reach a temple on an island-the island we lived on, I guess. It was a weird dream. XD
All my dreams are weird...
... but now I'm wondering as to what the face painting was supposed to mean on a subconscious level...
I mean, in terms of the dream, the point was that you were not supposed to even climb the stairs unless you painted your face in the proper colors. It was supposed to be a sign of respect to the spirits there, or show them that you're one of them... I dunno... but not doing so was basically not allowed. XD The face that I used chalk to cover my own face is kind of weird, especially as I'm saying it was 'face painting.'
Then agaaain... you do technically use talk of a sort when you paint your face... or you can use paint... but I've seen chalk drenched in water used more often. XD See, now I'm getting really technical on a weird level, because I'm basing this on a 'childhood' memory of mine. XD However, in this dream I had, I'm pretty sure the chalk itself was dry, but the marks it left were on the moist side, so as to better leve a mark. Also, the black chalk was more like an oil... I mean, the 'bags' that I colored in under my eyes were a greyish color, definitely more like black chalk, but the rectangle on my cheek was much darker and shinier, like oil... then there's that craggy scar in red that I drew over my left eye... I wonder what all this means... doesn't help that I'm also thinking of Dan a lot and hoping he is okay, as I've been assuming... maybe something's actually wrong this time.... it would explain the lack of correspondence from anyone... God, I'm getting sleepy again, and it doesn't help that I'm hungry. Til next time, Gaia...
