Grump Hamn glared at the piece of paper in his hand.
He had just received it a few minutes ago from an neighboring kingdom.Said kingdom held his love captive till he promised to marry the king's daughter.
And he just convinced his father to let him marry his love, a commoner.
He sighed in defeat and burned the paper in his hand.
He donned his fire cape and mask before heading out for the long ride to his fiance.
Grump Hamn rode for two days before reaching the castle where his companion was being held.
"Hello!" he called out to the guard from atop his horse. "I wish to see your king and princess. They wish to see me married."
The guard nodded and led him into the castle.
" Haha!" called out a gruff voice from the throne room. " I see your future husband has arrived , my princess." Grump heard a shriek of delight and the doors burst open revealing a rather plain looking girl who stared at him in adoration.
She swung her arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his lips. He reeled back in shock and gently pulled her off of him.
"Er, princess? I really need to see my fiance." He asked gently, hoping not to upset her too much.
She just giggled instead. " Silly! " she playfully hit him "You're looking at her."
He internally sighed and wondered why this just had to happen to him.
" I mean my, er, original fiance."
This time she glared at him. "Why do you need to see that trollop?" She demanded. "Aren't I enough?"
Grump winced slightly and looked towards the King. He just shrugged his shoulders.
"I mean she's in no state to see a future king, what with her being all tortured and nearly dead. I mean she's just a commoner! I'm a prin-"
Grumps heart stopped while she went on.
His love, nearly dead. She was tortured while he rode her.
His anger swelled up. How dare this woman touch her! Se may be a princess but that was his woman she hurt.
He coldly glared at the princess, who in turn stopped her ranting.
"Show me her. Now"
She just stared at him in disbelief.
She quickly got over it and got a guard to show him to his commoner.
When he saw her strapped to the wall in chains, lash marks everywhere, he nearly broke down and killed anything within a fifty foot radius.
Instead. he gingerly grabbed her off the wall and carried her bridal style, her head laying gently across his shoulder, away from the dungeon.
When he got to the throne room he glared at the princess again and turned to the king.
"I shall not marry your daughter, and I will leave with my fiance!"
Que princess scream
"Not fair!" she shrieked! "Guards seize them!"
The room quickly filled with guards who held them a sword point.
"ENOUGH!" came the booming voice of the king.
"Go Prince Grump Hamn. Leave my kingdom and never come back"
He took that as a good ridence and left as quickly as possible , but not before he heard the king yell at his daughter for all the trouble she'd caused.
Grump chuckled to himself, in turn stirring his love.
"Grump?" she called out through her groggy haze
"shh, my darling, sleep. We will be home soon."
"You came. She said you were marrying her because I wasn't a princess. She said you never lov-"
She was quickly cut off by his lips.
"Never say I don't love you."
