Fighting game #2 for my 3ds. I found this game to be enjoyable, whenever I wasn't wiping away nosebleeds.
I'll get this out of the way, the developers spent a lot of time making sure that there was realistic (or somewhat) breast motion physics. But hey, that's what Dead or Alive is known for aside from ninjas. Seems to be more for show than anything. Oh but I do like for the fact that they made a metroid stage with Ridley, though they could have put Samus in the game like they put Nicole in 3.
Moving on, the fighting aspect is completely different from Street Tighter since there are no special flashy moves, instead you focus on punches, kicks, throws, and holds. Punches and kicks can be chained together to make combos which you can either memorize or just tap the touch screen to activate. Throws are exactly what they describe. Holds are counters to punches and kicks. Also the game runs by a rock-paper-scissors fashion where punches beat throws, throws beat holds, and holds beat punches. Also unlike street fighter there is free movement around the stage.
Tag mode takes a while for me to get used to, though it's simple to understand. You may choose two characters to battle another team or a single character. There are two aspects to it. One is when you are fighting your parter can tag out, or switch with you at any time if they feel like it. While fighting in this mode you can do tag throws which not only does decent damage, but also switches you with your partner after the throw is completed. Also when you are tagged out, you will slowly regenerate health. In the Tag Challenge mode, you'll notice that your computer opponents will have much more health and you cannot control your partner.
The game does a good job bringing those who haven't played DOA 1-4 up to speed through a well condensed story mode though the characters are often statue-ish since they don't move in most scenes nor do we see lip movement. Kinda like those old Old Navy commercials with the mannequins. But hey I can't complain. It's only a compressed version.
The music is very upbeat though they made some nice compositions. A lot of techno, japanese, and rock background music. The voice acting in Japanese is very well made. Some of the english voices is done with stereotyped accents, like Bayman with his Russian accent and Tina with her Southern Belle accent. Makes the game a lot more interesting.
Nonny's rating: 8/10. I got what I wanted in this game, good fighting game platformer, ninjas, visual eye candy, and a samurai (Genra).
Nonny's tip: It is easy to just tap the combos and the bottom screen but it's best to memorize some so you can fake out your opponents with a change of pace when combo-ing.
Nonny's Pick: Ryu, Kokoro, Elliot, and Kasumi
