While my brother, Inuyasha, was wandering about looking for Naraku and the jewel, I met a young human girl named Rin, who had been killed by a pack of wolves. I used the Tensaiga to revive her, and she continued to travel with me from then on. I also met another (human) woman later on while I too searched for Naraku. Her name was Tsuyaru. She too continued to follow me in my travels, and became very close to young Rin.
At the time, I still wouldn't admit to caring for any human... but after Rin's death, I realized how much I had been lying to myself. Rin never once asked me if I cared for her. I supposed that if she wanted to believe that I cared for her, she would already have known. Tsuyaru cried endlessly at Rin's death, and Jaken was little help in ending the tears. Jaken, of course, has a habit of being a complete idiot when he's needed for any kind of support~which is why I don't give him the option to not accompany me when entering a situation where his assistance or company would be of some help.
After a while, I came to care for Tsuyaru. I learned what my father meant. I ~do~ have someone to protect... even from myself. I couldn't let her die... and I wouldn't let her die without knowing the truth~that I do care for her. When our daughter was born, Tsuyaru named her Sakura, because it was under the sakura tree that our relationship and our daughter were born...
I ~do~ have someone to protect.
