This one is an anomaly...more of a testosterone-filled "let’s see if I can do this." Apparently I could, but the results are varied.
I found these Slime creatures to be curious. The "smile" on their faces were not smiles at all, but a static feature. Well, perhaps not completely static; they do stretch and move along with the body, and the mouth does open to allow nourishment. Regardless, the mouth's natural shape is the "smile." Beyond these findings, though, I found them to be weak and nearly defenseless. There are many species, of course, but the plain blue variety is the weakest.
Long story short: I hooked it up to a robot. The animal was injured, and the thought occurred to be right then and there. I used simple cybernetics that were detailed in a couple of books I had lying around. The procedure was quick and easy with something so small, so I made up the free time by creating the body it now controls. It wasn't terribly happy, at first, but I was able to repress its mind a bit and control the little bugger. All in all, it was a great learning experience and it led to my first cyborg. However, the Mecha Slime is a bit unstable, so I wouldn't call it a complete success. Nevertheless, I have kept it the way it is so that it may serve as a sort of "rampaging monster" to unleash on the battlefield if things get a bit sticky.
