Well, we have a week to get the haunt up and running. The better part of October was ice cold and rainy. All the time we thought we'd have to work on props was spent cuddling by the fireplace, trying to stay warm. To make matters worse, Vi came down with "something" that took her down hard and kept her down for the last week. We are all taking vit C and keeping our distance, but it's Halloween. It's tradition that the whole house goes down with the crud at some point. I'd rather it were after the haunt.
I've got the Tia Dalma costume done. I don't know how I'm going to dred my hair, but Vi thinks we can use some form of theatrical mud to do it. I'm thinking wig. Not my hair. Maybe if we didn't have the party afterward, but we do, and I want to look good for Julian. biggrin He's going to do Gilgamesh Wulfenbach from Phil Foglio's comic Girl Genius. I'm doing Agatha Heterodyne. I've got a week to pull it together and the hardest part is going to be those glasses... I think.
Vi, her boyfriend and another couple are doing Teen Girl Squad from Strong Bad from Home Star Runner. I really don't know how this is going to turn out - the older people at the party are NOT going to get it. Plus, putting her boyfriend in drag? Not sure that's a good idea either. Not my problem. She's only asked for a little help with her costumes, so that's cool.
Rose and Thorn aren't dressing up as anything this year. Rose is too busy with her life to even help with the haunt. Thorn is feeling silly. I figure he'll stay in his pirate costume and just wander around like he usually does. He's doing better with people these days. Storm is being his usual emo self and staying clear of all the work and the planning. He'll show up to eat with his crew as usual. That boy needs a life. A real one.
My project for the haunt is getting Gunner Renfield finished. A haunter friend of mine gave me this awesome latex head he sculpted for my birthday last year. He made five of them all total, and I have the best one. Every one else in his class was making vampires and werewolves and he wanted to make something different, so I suggested that NO one ever makes Renfield. lol So he made that his project and it's just fantastic. I wish I had his skills. Anyway, Mum looked at Mr. Renfield in his box - boy, the PO would have had a surprise if they'd opened THAT! - and she immediately assigned him to one of the cannons. Only problem is that it's my job to give the guy a body.
Should be interesting. And people ask us why we put ourselves through this every year. < lol I wish I knew. Well, I do - it's fun and seeing the kids' faces every year is worth all the colds and flu and freezing and work. We have kids who signed the ship's registry years ago and now they're in middle school.
I hope we have enough nice days this next week. Lots of work to do.

The Fairegarden Files
Hi. I'm Lily Fairegarden. I came to Gaia to play the games & have been having fun playing with my avatar and the site. I'm also a writer-type; well, artsy in general. I'm something of a contradiction - I love people, but I'm kind of shy. So say hi!
