I'm finally back from my trip. Me and two other people from art club went to Laramie, Wyoming thursday and we got back last night at 9pm. It was really fun but it took like six friggin hours to drive there.
On friday we visited the Wyoming State University and did a whole bunch of activities.
First we did print making. We went to a grave yard and had to pick a headstone to sketch. We then were given a tile and inked it then drew the headstone onto it and then pressed it onto paper. We did that for about an hour and I got four pics done. We then went back to the printmaking building and etched a design onto tile. We didn't have enough time to finish ours on the first day, so we came back early saturday to finish them. It was really hard and my hands were filthy by the time I was done with mine.
After we did the printmaking we went back to the main arts building for drawing. We had to do a real-life and a still-life drawing. It turns out there was going to be a nude model for the real-life one. At first I was thinking it was going to be a female model so it wasn't going to be a really big deal, but no, sure enough a guy walks out wearing nothing but a purple satin robe and of course that wasn't going to stay on. gonk We had to do three three-minute sketches of the model, then a thirty minute drawing. I was so glad to move on to the still-life though I'm not as good at drawing inatimate objects. When we were done with the drawing and we had a break, my friends were poking fun at me by saying, "Poor Jennifer. You must be scarred for life." xd It was actually quite funny.
The last thing we did was go to sculpture. We got to carve out of molds made of sand that was held together by resin and something else. After carving into the stupid thing for two hours my hand was cramping up, but I eventually finished it. We went back there at around 7pm to watch them cast the iron into the molds. It was so awesome. The iron itself supposidly heats up at 2700 degrees. At this time we were standing outside in the dark and in the pouring rain, but it was worth watching them pour the iron. When they broke open the molds to show the final pieces it was like opening presents at christmas. Mine turned out very well. The next day we went back and cleaned up the sculptures with wire brushes and all that.
On friday night before we went to go see the iron-casting we had supper at 'The Library.' Mrs. Kelley and us were thinking that they were serving food at the school library, but it turns out that 'The Library' is a resteraunt and bar. Oh yea, and we checked out the school's concert hall and they had this friggin huge pipe organ that took up the whole back wall of the stage. heart And they had a full size grand piano that I wanted to play, but there was someone already practicing on it in the concert hall. I shoulda taken a picture of the organ.
We took our time coming back saturday. We went to the art museum then we checked out some of the shops in town. And then on the trip back we took a wrong turn twice and we almost ended up in Sundance. It was a great trip and I'll definetly try to go again next year.
