#14- What are you?
“Uuh..b..u..” I uttered in surprise at his sudden explosion of emotion.
Soon he began to wail so loudly I bit my lip to keep myself calm. It was like the trees were shaking from his screams.
“Wait. Stop it.” I blurted out. I didn’t know what else to say.
He immediately stopped wailing but was still sobbing quietly, staring at me with huge white puppy eyes.
I let out a sigh and rose up from the snowy ground. My pants were soaked as I brushed the snow off. I wobbled a bit when I tried to walk so I just stood still, facing the boy. I realized I had a million questions to ask him now that I knew I was able to talk to him.
I looked from side to side, being cautious just in case something was out there.
I started with the first question that popped in my head.
“Will you stop crying now?” I asked, gently, lowering my voice.
The boy nodded, obediently, hiccupping. He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.
“A-are you scared of me?” He whimpered, continuing to rub his eyes.
“Not anymore.” I said, crossing my arms.
A smile lit up on his tear-stained face. I felt the courage to smile back at him. I couldn’t believe myself, running away from him like that before. I almost felt stupid. He wasn’t dangerous at all. He just confused me out of my mind, making me fearful of him.
“Ayumi-oneechan (big sister)!” he squeaked, happily, squirming.
I stared at him for a while. There was my name again. How did he know it?
“I need to ask you some questions.” I spoke.
He stopped squirming and looked me in the eye, nodding childishly.
“Okay…” I breathed out deeply and started with the first one to pop into my head.
“What are you?”
