Bugs I'm Tracking
- still trying to get feedback on the CDN issues that cause avatars not to display outside of the US
Bag of Tired
I'm exhausted from all the "Bag of Win" stuff. It's taken probably half my time for the past couple of days, and to be honest it doesn't seem like my efforts to try and explain are actually helping at all. But thank you for the users that sent intelligent, well-thought letters about the issues; your input was appreciated.
I also will mention here that I am not the official Gaia economist, and that my journal entries reflect my interpretation of events, which is not necessarily the One True Viewpoint of Events(tm).
New Arenas
I had mentioned that we were retooling the new arena UI to make it more approachable. Some shots from the mocks:
The idea is to make it more readily apparent just how much activity is going on in the arenas at any given time. For example, this is a shot of a user browsing an art entry; note that to the right there are a number of easy ways to browse the latest/most popular entries. The idea behind this is that it facilitates easy discovery and browsing of everything that is available.
This ease-of-browsing extends to all of the different arenas. Here is the avatar arena, showing a number of avatar entries.
We made your favorites and friendlists more prominent, with the idea being that once you've discovered some artists that you like, you should be able to discover their additional work.
Stuff Rolling Out This Week
- Find Friends should go out this week
- Item normalization, by our own rocking team of DARKNRGY, Jakobo and omgwhat, hit QA today. When this finally goes live it will enable us to do tons of cool stuff with the gameplay.
- We've been working on the moderator tools; most of you don't see this, but it should mean that the moderators get to stuff faster
- Buildup to a big event goes live today

And thank you for removing the bag so quickly, and trying to explain the reasoning behind it.
This is just my opinion, but the new arena design kind of looks like youtube. I liked how the layout we got to test had actual background images on the main page. It made it a bit less.. cold? Or maybe a bit more welcoming. Not sure how to describe it. >.>;
Does item normalization mean inventories/dressing will finally load if you exceed the current crash limit of 1.2k items? @w@
Edit: Woow, I wasn't looking forward to the Gaia Prom event that much, cause "what could you possibly do to make prom fun on the internet" but after seeing the announcement just now I am definitely looking forward to it! Christian was my favorite designer of project runway this season and seeing him involved kind of made me giddy. XD
And the dresses are prettyyyyyy and affordable... and those dance videos are funny, I can't wait to see more! Andandand I can't wait to see what the flash game is, or the NPC update. Ahh this looks like it's going to be an awesome event, already!
