i'm a bit behind on the times today. it probably has something to do with the fact that my brother joined the air force and yesterday we (mom, dad, and me) had to drive him up to a base in sanantonio for basic training. we didn't get home until 10:25ish, and i still had work to do, so i didn't really sleep last night. a little depressing, seeing my only sibling sent to the military, even if it was his choice. (my brother's 22)
is it just me, or all art teachers born outside the town of reason and never move into it? my crazy teacher's always demanding stuff (rulers, apples, to sell chocolate, participate in car washes, etc.) for her to support the class. i understand to a certain degree because texas has no appreciation for art in school, so they don't fund it. but that doesn't mean to leech the students dry!!
a word of advice: never, if given the chance, share a stage with a symphony. (in small towns like mine, there is no orchestra box. if there's live music to dance, they're on the stage with the dancers) this thursday my company is performing at 'spooktakular' with 3 pieces. it's basically a halloween themed way to culture kids. yes kids. lots of them, squalling and screaming and sticky with candy. in costume. even worse? we have to deal with such friendly figures as ronald mcdonald and the big purple dude (not barney; the blob like thing associated with mcdonald's) backstage. it's amazing how rude they can be to those 'below' them. plus, my pointe shoes (the shoes that dancers go on their toes with, made of stiffened canvas, not concrete or wood, by the way.) are extremely soft and i keep rolling off pointe in them. it's fun, believe me.
i seem to be typing/talking my head off to make up for all the days i didn't have a chance to even check email. and if you ask my friends, that's pretty desperate, considering it's the main form of communication between my boyfriend and me. so if you're still reading/listening, i'm going to stop now before my fingers fall off. ciao!
