Vash rested his fingertips lightlyy on the cave wall, thought clouding his eyes and turning them a stormy gray. He stepped off the stone floor of the cave and onto soft sand. it was a beautiful sunny day, but Vash saw none of the beauty of the scene before him; he was still stunned and confused about all that had just happened in the cave behind him.
"Vasharl...Vash?"
"Huh?" Startled from his reverie, Vash whirled around. There in the cave entrance stood a ravishing blond beauty clothed in a long dress of black and purple cloth: Genevive. She was the only member of the crew who still calld Vash by his fullname, and for some reason she seemed intent on winning his heart.
"Are you all right, Vasharl?" Vash could see his surprised reflection in Genevive's eyes. Those bright blue eyes that seemed to pierce right to his very soul.
"I'm fine. Just...stunned."
"I can understand that."
"You can?"
"Sure thing, luv. You're talkin' about what just happened, right?"
"Uh huh."
"I'm pretty stunned myself. That was some miracle, wasn't it? the cap'n bein' resurrected an' all."
"Mm-hm." Vash turned to look out to sea. Genevive walked up behind him and laid her head on his shoulder. He shook her off.
"Geez, Vasharl. You're just a man of few words today, ain't ya?"

In the shadow of some boulders a figure awoke blinking up at the midday sun. He ( for this figure was a male) stretched and stopped as he saw a man and woman emerge from a cave hidden in the cliffs near the beach.
"Heh heh, prey," he muttered, rubbing his hands together. He fumbled behind himself and grabbed a crossbow. He set a bolt in the bow and let it fly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wsshh!
"Vasharl, look out!"
Genevive tackled Vash ,and, at the same time, erected a barrier of blue lightning that utterly decimated a crossbow bolt that would have buried itself in his back.
"Are you okay, Vasharl?" Genevive asked as she helped Vash back to his feet.
"Yes. But I doubt I would be if you hadn't tackled--Aargh!" Vash clutched at his arm. There was a long, metal needle embedded in it.
"Ha ha ha!" Maniacal laughter came from behind the two vampyrs. Genevive turned, drawing her rapier and perrying a blow from the man who had just rushed from the dunes.
"Vasharl, run! Get the captain!" she yelled over her shoulder.
Vash was already at the cave entrance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was sitting in the cave with Sakura, Tayu, Scarlette and Neji. We were brainstorming how to get off this island and get a new ship, when--
"Captain!" I turned to see Vash leaning against the cave wall clutching his arm.
"Vash! What in the world--?!"
"Ambush--Genevive 'n I--were talkin'--Someone shot me--Gen's still..out there..."
Vash slumped to the ground.
"Vash!" I ran over and kneeled by him. A long, metal needle stuck out from his arm and blood seeped from the wound.
"Sakura-chan! Vash's wounded! There's a needle in his arm--might be poisonous--and he's bleedin' badly!"
I looked up from my fallen comrade and saw genevive struggling to fight off a strange-looking man.
"Hold in there, Vash. I'll go help Genevive." I stood, giving Vash a kiss on his brow before drawing both my katanas from their sheaths on my back and charging at the attacker. Just as I reached him and Genevive, the attacker found an opening in Genevive's defense and ran her through!
"No!" I shrieked, dropping my katanas and estending an arm, "Frieren!" The man stopped as he turned to run, frozen by my spell. that done, I turned to Geneviv'e still form. She waas alive, but just barely. I knelt and lifted her head. Her eyes flickered open.
"Captain, I--I'm--*cough*." More blood spettered her dress.
"Shhh," I whispered, "Save your breath, Gen. Don't talk. You'll be fine. Oh my god."
"No, Captain--I have to--tell you--I'm sorry--I've let you down--"
"Shh, don't talk like that, luv. You 'aven't let me down."
"Yes i have. I've gone--and gotten myself--killed--"
"What're you talkin' 'bout? You--you're not dead yet. Just let me get you ta Sakura-chan. She'll have you fixed up in no time." Tears had started rolling down my face.
"Sorry Jaquie. I really have--let you down..." Genevive sorta smiled, then she closed her eyes and stopped breathing. I threw my head back and howled at the sky in sorrow. Then, suddenly enraged, I turned to the frozen man.
"Tayu! Neji!" I snapped, "Hold him! I don't want that b*****d getting away when I release the spell!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What are you going to do to me? Don't hurt me! Please?" THe man was gibbering as two pirates stalked over and stood beside him. The pirate kneeling by the corpes of the girl he'd killed barked out a word in some foreign language. Suddenly he could move again. The two pirates on either side of him grabbed his arms and one planted a boot on his back, pushing him to his knees. He cast fearful eyes up at his captor and realized he'd just made a grave mistake. He'd attacked a member of the most feared supernatural crew of pirates in the seven seas.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I glared down at the quivering pile of worthless flesh who'd just murdered my crewmate and friend.
"What's your name, filth?" I barked.
"L-L-L-Lucas, miss--I--I mean, Captain. L-L-Lucas G-G-G-Geldings."
"Well, little Lucas. You've just made me very mad. And you never want a pirate, much less a vampyr, much less this vampyr, mad at you." I raised my katanas (which I had picked up before stalking up to the captive).
Lucas screamed and started writhing. I looked at him in confusion. I hadn't even touched him yet.
"No! Not now! WHy doew this always happen at the worst times?" he was whimpering. Then something odd happened: he shrank a bit. Hair started covering his body and his hands anfd feet turned into paws. A moment later, in the place of the male who'd been wetting his pants at the sight of me, a light brown wolf looked up at me.
"Great," it growled, "I hate it when this happens. Usually I can control it."
"Ha! HAhahahahahahahaha!" I couldn't help it; I burst out loaughing. The look on that wolf's face was just too funny.
"*haaah*, ok," I brushed a tear of laughter from my eye, "Since I can't waste such hilarity, you'll live. But don't think I'l ever forgive you for killing my friend."
"Really? You're not going to kill me?"
"No, I'm not going to kill you. If you don't annoy me. You'll work as our cabin boy. Now, SHIFT YOUR LAZY ARSE AND GET TO WORK!!!!"
Lucas yipped and skittered off.
I watched the little wolf go. I sheathed my katanas again. Neji came over and touched my cheek. Her hand came away wet; weet with tears. Tayu walked over, and both of them embraced me. Feeling like a babe in its mother's arms, I wept like I would never stop.
