"Set the gangplank! Bosun, First and Second Mate to me! Handsomely now!"
The three I'd called were there in a flash.
"Aye, cap'n?"
I flashed a grin at them. "We're puttin' the plan into action. The three'a you're comin' with me."
They looked at each other and at me in confusion.
"Plan, cap'n?"
"Ye'll see."
"No glamour this time, Jaquie?"
"Nope. Wouldn't seem right. See, we're gonna greet our friend o'er there." I gestured to Bluebeard standing on the docks. Some understanding dawned in Vash's eyes. I strode down the gangplank and headed in the direction opposite the Apocalypse. Vash, Sakura, and Scarlette caught up to me quickly. I stopped a few ships down.
"Awright then. Vash, luv, might I take your arm?"
He cocked an eyebrow, but offered me the crook of his arm anyway. I slipped my hand in to rest there and started strolling at a leisurely pace back toward the ship.
"Edokawa, tell us a tale from your pack. Make it a humorous one."
The Were grinned toothily and launched into a story that had us laughing and seemingly paying no attention to where we were going by the time we reached our goal.
"...totally nutters, right? So then the fool--an' ye'll never b'lieve this--'e said--"
"Oi! Watch it, you!"
Bluebeard whirled, ire and annoyance mottling his face, as my shoulder hit his back and I seemed to stumble over his boot. I "caught my balance" and sneered.
"Well, look what the catfish dragged in. What took ya so long, Artie? We been waitin' here fer two weeks. Just about to give up on ya."
"Don't act innocent with me, Sparrow," he growled. "I know 'twas your hocus pocus that fogged my ship."
I gave my companions a look that said "oopsies," and they laughed.
"Aw, come now, Artie," I said, slipping my arm from my husband's and draping it over Bluebeard's shoulder. He shrugged it off. "Twas all a bit 'a fun. Look, I'm sure you're exhausted. How's aboutcha let yer First Mate take over fer a bit an' join us fer a bite ta eat, eh? I found a quaint li'l place o'er on Fleet Street thatcha might like."
Bluebeard glared at me for a few minutes, weighing the worth of a quiet place to rest and how much he distrusted me. In the end, rest won out.
"Bah! All right, Sparrow. Lead the way. But this had better not be a trick."
I put on an offended expression. "Never, Artie, never! Why'd I wanna trick you?"
