The News Today Apparently on the news today, there was an article about something to do with the girls who were alledgedly sexually assaulted at our school. This apparently happened back in February, but we're all hearing about it now because it was in the news. The online version of the article doesn't explain what happened, only that the father of the older girl is stirring up trouble because he was unhappy with the way the school handeled the situation blah blah blah. I'm not quite sure what to believe, or whether or not I want to even develop an opinion on the subject. I mean, I don't know what happened and there's really no way for me to find out from an un-biased source. What did bother me was the attitudes that people had towards the girls. Almost everyone I heard said that the girls either 'probably deserved it because they're sluts' or 'are lying because they're sluts' What kind of mentality is that? Sure, it's entirely possible that they ARE lying, but what if they're not? And besides, does it make it any less wrong for the guys to act the way they alledgedly did even if they are a little on the skanky side? It actually made me want to kick Thing when she said that they probably deserved it. The girls say that they were dragged into the bathroom where the guys threatened them, while the guys said that they asked the girls if they'd give them head, the girls said yes but not on school property, the guys pressured them and they agreed. Once they were caught on the security cameras, they changed their story. I'll update when I find out more details. Opinions ladies?

	I agree with you godi. Just because the girls may be a little 'trops connu' in the words of fortier, doesn't mean they forfit all basic human rights. It the same for prostitutes. Just because they sleep with people for a living doesn't mean it's legal to rape them. On the other hand, it's become alot easier for girls to claim rape whether or not it happened, because the police etc, tend to beleive the girls over the guys. I figure the real story is somewhere in the middle of both sides.

	Mina and I had a mini-discussion about this at Timmy's last night and I must say that she's wrapped up my opinion on the subject quite nicely. Over the yrs, it's been generally accepted that someone's sexual orientation and promiscuous behaviour should be taken into account when they're involved in sexually assaulting/demeaning crimes. Despite the fact that it is now illegal to use a person's sexual history as a defense for actions against them, it seeems that society has yet to clue in on that. I think it is completely terrible that ppl are even suggesting that they deserved or were asking for it. Yes, it would be horrible if they were changing they're stories and placing their reputation over the integrity of the two guys, but that doesn't mean that they deserved to be sexually assaulted. On the other side of the spectrum, Mina's right. It is much easier for a woman to receive the upper hand in a sexual assault case based on the ignorance of cases in the past. However, two wrongs don't make a right. Hopefully the right people will be the ones to decifer what's really going on in this unfortunate situation. I also hope that the media filters the information they let out for the sake of your school's reputation. Miss A 4laugh

	I was standing near the back of the bus a few weeks back, so I heard about it long before the news. From what I heard it was two guys, one just happened to be in the room at the time, and the girls came willingly. I just have one thing to say...if they screamed, why did noone hear them?
