“You should really pay more attention.” She stared at him in shock. That was the first time in a long while that she would have been in real trouble, “Th-thank you, Sean.” The fight ended and whoever was left alive from the opposing group fled the area. The small group of Fallens gathered, jumping over dead bodies and ran through puddles of blood. Their shirts were stained with splattered red, and their faces full of bloody dirt. “That was too easy,” Shade snorted as he cracked his fingers.
“Says you… I hurt my little pinky,” Chan pouted. Liz came up to her and hug her saying “Awe! Poor muffin!” Right then Chan’s stomach gurgled loudly and they all looked toward their food. “Aw my foods all spoiled and bloody…” Chan pouted again sadly. Sarcastically Joyce said, “So much for a nice lunch.” Shade them casually said, “Yeah… I don’t feel much like eating around dead corpses today,” as if it were common to them. They all agreed with Shade and continued their search for Trent.
It was night and they found themselves walking on a narrow, steep ledge against a large wall of rock. It was as if they had glue their backs to the canyon wall and moved slowly along it. The canyon was deep and they couldn’t see the bottom of it. All but Shade and Liz were nervous, they could not use their wings and if they were to fall there would be no saving them. They did not set up camp for the thought that it was not a necessity and moved on, ending up in a situation in which there was no turning back. Chan, Joyce and Ron quivered their bodies and clenched their teeth at the fact that they could lose their footing and fall to the bottom of the canyon… if there was one. Ron and Chan kept complaining about the cold and that they should have brought jackets. They then looked down the canyon again, “H-h-h-how far down d-do you think th-that is?” Ron asked in a trembling frenzy.
“Whos knows,” Joyce answered. Chan grabbed a loose rock and tossed it down into the deep abyss. They listened for a long time to hear it hit the bottom. It was dead silent. Not a sound.
“Does that answer your question?” Chan answered.
“I don’t want to die!!” Ron exclaimed.
“Relax, no one’s going to die,” assured Shade, which oddly enough made them all feel a tad bit better. The moon was large and bright in the sky and shone down on them as they slowly inched along the ledge, their hands holding as securely as they could to the wall. Suddenly out of nowhere a large rock fell from the top of the canyon wall and hit Joyce on the head. She was knocked out easily, mostly because when she was younger she had a bad experience that left her with a weakness to be knocked unconscious easily. She fell off the ledge and into the deep canyon. “Joyce!!” everyone exclaimed, all but Ron who jumped off the ledge to save her. “Ron! No!” Chan yelled. He pointed his body down in the air as to get more speed to catch up to Joyce’s limp body. He grabbed her and shot out his wings. Blood flew as the skin ripped open for the wings and he flew up quickly to make a beautiful silhouette against the large glowing moon. Shade watched wide eyed, “Oh no… now we’re screwed…” he shook his head. They made it off the ledge quickly. Everyone else, but Shade, was glad to be alright, “Alright? Alright?! If anyone saw that then we’re all dead for sure!” exclaimed the unhappy one. Chan turned to face him, “Relax, Shade. That’s only IF somebody so that.” He looked at her in disgust and this annoyed her, “You should be happy! You would have just lost one of your best friends! Which would you prefer: Your best friend dead to save another, Or rather every one alive?” He was silent for a few moments and stared at her intensely with angered eyes. Finally he said, “Let’s just hope no one saw that.” Ron came into the conversation, “Come on, Shade. Aren’t you glad that Joyce is alive? She’s only unconscious and--” he was cut off, “You idiot! We’re all going to be dead if anyone saw your little act back there! This world is not meant for things like us! If they ever find out where we are they will send villages after us! They will send armies! We wouldn’t be able to fight them all!” Shade gestured with pointing towards himself and in directions far off indicating other people and towns as he talked. Suddenly a hand grabbed his arm. It was Chan, “That’s enough, Sean,” She said as she glared at him straight in the eyes. He glared back and snatched his arm out of her hand, “Let’s just keep moving,” he snarled.
Chan carried Joyce on her back while she and Ron kept their post at the back of the group. Chan was angry and Ron could tell. He tried his best to start up a conversation with her, “Umm, soooo…” She didn’t answer, “Hey, what wrong? You don’t seem like yourself” he said in worriment.
“Sean’s being a jerk.” She snarled,
“Yeah, well, he can be like that sometimes. It’s my fault anyways,”
“You were trying to save your friend. You had to do something, so technically it’s nobody’s fault. He’s just being… nyaaaah” She stuck her tongue out in Shade’s direction. Shade yelled, “I saw that, Chan!” from afar even though he wasn’t even facing their way. Chan and Ron’s eyes grew wide and snickered between each other. “God, that’s creepy! It’s like he has eyes in the back of his head!” Chan teased in a whisper. They stopped snickering. “Oh! So hey! How is your back doing? Is it still bleeding?” She asked in sudden concern,
“I think it’s alright now but it did hurt when the skin broke,” he smiled to her. She smiled back in relief. Joyce started to moan quietly. “Whoa! I think she’s starting to wake up!” exclaimed Ron. Chan placed Joyce on the ground and asked Ron to get Shade and Liz. She didn’t want to talk to Sean at the moment. They hysterically ran to Joyce’s side and they stood over her to see if she would open her eyes. There was a noise behind them which caused them to jump and turn towards it in defensive mode. It was pitch black and the only illuminants were the moon and small stars that dotted the endless sky. Shade made a gesture for the group to crouch down low. They listened attentively where the noise had come from. Nothing happened. It was dead silent. Suddenly there was a noise behind them. They turned around to see a shadowy figure bent down picking up Joyce from the ground.
