Depending on their moods, the Fallens’ wings would change tint. The happier, the brighter, if they had negative or sad feeling their wings would get darker.
Ron was leaning on a pillar facing Chan in the large room. His wings were a darker shade of cerulean blue now and they drooped as he stared unconsciously at the floor. The glow from the warm, orange, crackling fire danced on one side of his body as the dim blue light from the grey rainy outdoors illuminated the other. As Chan too leaned against a pillar across from Ron, she stared past his shoulder at the open doorway outside and watched some strange lights in the sky flicker in an awkward manner. Once she realized what they really were her face turned to utter astonishment. From the corner of his eye Ron saw her flinch a bit. He looked up at her and noticed her expression. He asked, “Are you… okay, Chan? What’s wrong?” He was slightly worried about her. It had been a long time since he saw that look on her face. Not since she killed her brother and held his blood in her hands. Chan then stuttered out in a cold whisper, “A –a … a message…!”
She then ran out the doorway onto the balcony were Joyce was standing earlier. She cried out to the strange lights. It seemed like typical lightning to the rest of them but to Chan it was something that stirred her. Made her shake and quiver. Made her strange. Made her cry. She screamed to the lightning. “I’m here! Don’t go! I’m listening!!” Everyone was now behind her wondering what was happening to her. Eyes of worry stared at her as she continuously cried out to clouds. The lighting started to thunder whip and crackle. The lightning buzzed and flashed like a deadly, furious storm and hit near the castle a few times causing everyone to flinch and quiver a bit. Chan read the lights and thunder as if she were reading Morse code, as if she had mastered the language. Chan had tears welling up in her eyes. The thunder and lighting made its final say and then died down to dead quiet. Chan tilted her head down and smiled. She closed her eyes; the tears rolled down her cheeks, touched her chin and dripped off to hit her clenched hand in little plits. “I… I understand. Thank you…” Liz walked up beside her and wiped off the tears with a small handkerchief. Chan took a deep breath, let it out and quickly ran back into the castle. Joyce yelled to her, “Where are you going?!”
”C’mon! I know where Trent is!” Chan answered back.
