Hey! I know what you're thinking. Either "There's no such thing as God" or "Pfft! Mother God! What a jip." Well for my family it isn't. You see, we are Mexican. Except for me. I'm sputch (spanish/dutch). And my Dad. He's Dutch. Anyways we deeply believe in God. And in Mexico, if you didn't already know, we believe in another God too. We call her Mother God. Like Mother Nature. She is depicted differently throughout Mexico. I think the most common one is the Mary of Guadalupe. She is usually seen with her hands together in kind of a prayer form beside her tilted head with her manto flowing from her head down her back and resting somewhat on her arms. My family is far from religious (We don't like what the church teaches) but we are very spiritual. Difference? We don't go by the rules of Sin and Purgery, we don't believe all the stories in the bible except for maybe the story of Jesus and Mary, we definately don't believe in Hell except for the Earth we are living on right now, and we don't believe in a God that punishes, he only loves. So anyways to get all that aside for you to understand better the story, Mom wrote a letter to Mary, or, if you prefer, Mother God. She made a copy and burned both letters so they are sent to Her and she lit two candles. One for Male God and one for our Female God. Well the candles slowly deminished, and usually when you light a candle for a God/Goddess you should keep track of the wax markings. If they make weird rolls that look like clouds or rolls of money it means you will be good for finances in the short term coming up. Any other ones I am not sure what they mean. The money thing is only what I know through my mom. So anyways. we came back to the table this afternoon to find that Mary's candle still had a small flame in the bottom of the candle holder and the letter she burned made an outline of Mary of Guadalupe! The letter was rolled up before and burned in that form (It kept its round curvey shape in the burning process is what I mean) You could see her head was tilted with her praying hands right next to it and clearly she was wearing her manto over her head. Alas the tiny flame died out and there was one little line of smoke that stood out from the others and it danced in there air for a moment then it disappeared. It was totally awesome!!! whee Oh yeah and just in case you were wondering, the wax on the candle didn't make and rolls but at first the wax was kinda dripping around the candle instead of just going straight downwards =)
