“This tree, it’s so familiar.’ It was white with green leaves and it glowed a warm peaceful light that would take you away in sleep cradling every tender wound. The beginning branched intertwined into a braid then spread out reaching it’s fingers to the white sky.
“Is it? I’ve been waiting for so long I don’t remember anything else.” A voice spoke through the tree. She grew a little brighter than faded as a man stepped out. His hair was golden blonde and semi-spiked. He was oddly formed like a memory not all together there. He smiled. ‘I remember now,’ his voice sounded far away. Denzin stood appalled. She bursted out in tears and shook her head in disbelief. ‘I never had a chance to really say goodbye. She gasped in a sob. She walked up to him and fell into his arms. His outline became more solid. She looked up into his sky blue eyes. ‘Don’t cry.’
‘Why? Why did you do it?’ She pounded on his chest. A hand came and took her chin.
‘It was the only way to truly tell you that I love you.’ He gently put his lips against hers. A tear streamed down her face glowing like ice. There lips moved in silent song and he released it. He stared into her eyes. ‘There’s no more time left in the world. He comes to destroy all that is loved and cherished.’
‘I won’t let that happen,’ she grew bitter. She leaned into his chest as he held her and it melted away. ‘I want to stay here with you.’
‘And I you, but we know you can’t.’
‘Kysh-‘
’Tell the other’s to look after themselves and to not let anything happen to you that they can prevent.’ Kysh smiled. ‘As for the boy Josten, teach him, love him. There’s a special power he’s needed for.” There was a dim shudder from the tree as if it sighed with impatience. ‘ I must go,’ his outline grew dimmer. Tears again ran down her face. ‘
’I can’t... I can’t live without... you. Life has lost everything it once held for me ” she cried. Her shoulder shook from great sobs. He again kissed her, the song becoming more vibrant,
‘Keep this in a memory and grow with it. And less not for the loss of me but live more for the boy.’ He held her more and wiped away her tears. The tree sighed again. ‘Go This place is not for the living nor the dead, but meeting place for all that is said.’ He released her and began to fade.
‘I love you ’ she cried.
‘To my heart I hold our binding kiss loved and released.’ he faded into the tree. Denzin fell to her knees. Those words meant something he knew would happen; a new love, if so it will never compare to Kysh, ever ”
She awoke sobs and in the arms of Garn. Josten stood in fearful anticipation and Terrance stood in the shadows for it was now night. He seemed to be fighting against something. Denzin buried her face into Garn’s cloak. He patted her head awkwardly but reassuringly.
“Denzi?” Josten murmured. She composed herself with one great sob and dried her eyes. She turned to face Josten’s worried expression. “Are you...”
