Day 4: Dawn
It was just barely dawn when the sound of shouting across the street awoke me from my slumber. Rolling over on my side I check to see what time it was, groaning I pulled my blankets up over my head and attempted to drown out the noise. It was way too early in the morning for this.
The sound of rhythmic clicking on the hardwood floor alerted me to my soon to be fate. Making his way toward me he happily bounded up on my bed before attempting to stage a rescue mission by digging my head out of the covers. The tiny little pomeranian was in full gear this morning, and that meant I wouldn’t be getting any writing done today.
Shooing him away from head I sat up and stretched. Today was going to be a long day, I had a deadline to meet, and some manuscripts that needed to be edited. Sighing I looked over at Teddy, who had found his squeaky dinosaur toy that I had tried hiding.
Getting up I decided it would probably better if I left the windows close for fear of the shouting becoming even louder. Plucking Teddy and his dinosaur off the bed we made our way into the kitchen, setting him down opening the fridge the sudden remembrance that I hadn’t been shopping recently stared me in the face.
Being a writer is tough, and if people tell you otherwise they’ve probably never written anything in their life. Feeding Teddy before anything else, I settled on eggs and some toast, I started the hunt for clean silverware. My list of things to get done, just kept getting bigger and bigger.
Finally finding a clean pan I went to work fixing my breakfast, 15 minutes later I had two slightly charred eggs, and the worlds hardest piece of toast. Picking off tiny bits of egg, I flicked them at Teddy who was more than happy to eat something other than his dog food.
The shouting match outside was still going on, and I had no doubts that it would probably last all day. Between that and Teddy and his squeak toy I wasn’t sure which drove me crazy more, but I gave me something to write about.
