CHAPTER #2
“I’ll join.” Kai said calmly.
“Are you sure,” Katsumi asked, “there will be no turning back.”
“Yes, teach me how to fight.”
And so, Kai officially became partners with Katsumi. She trained with him every day from dawn to dusk and became an excellent martial artist. She became strong-willed and bodied. Kai wanted to know how to use a gun, which was what she saw the Uden with on the other side of the wall when she had climbed it, but Katsumi said: “That’s not very lady-like, why don’t you learn to use this instead?” So she learned how to use a bow and arrow like a pro. Her aim was so perfect that she could hit a fly from 50 feet away. Katsumi said she was born to use it.
In only four months, Kai had become a skilled fighter, with or without her weapon. She had just turned fourteen and was itching to leave. They were almost finished training for the day.
“When are we going to go?” asked Kai as she kicked the tree as hard as she could.
“Are you ready?” Katsumi asked. “You have to be completely sure about this.” He looked over at her with his blue eyes sparkling with excitement.
“I am so sure.” Kai said as she put her blonde hair up in a ponytail and punched the tree with the final blow, causing it to break and fall over.
“Okay then.”

Kai went to her house after training. She grabbed a piece of bark and a sharp rock and carved a letter for her parents. It read:
“Dear mom, dad, and brother,
I’m sorry I have to do this to you, but I’m going to fight the Udens, or invaders. I’ve joined Sento, an organization that is working to make the world a better place for us Humans (not Worms)! I may never come back and I might die in battle, but I just wanted you guys to know that I’m doing this for you, and if I do die, I’ll die happily. I have something to live for now, my life won’t be wasted! By the way, we don’t live on planet Uden2, we live on Earth.
I love you all and will miss you!

When her parents got home they picked up the piece of bark and looked at it, confused, they couldn’t understand what it said, and used it for firewood. They never saw Kai again.
