In the year 2053, an alien civilization invaded earth in hopes of suppressing the overflowing amount of humans that were ruining their planet by pollution, overpopulation, and killing off other species that are important for their own survival. The aliens killed off many of the humans. They suppressed the remaining humans to a small area of the planet and started to inhabit it themselves. Twenty years passed and the war between the aliens and humans had obviously ended in favor of the aliens. The aliens announced that they had control over the planet and renamed it Uden2. The aliens called themselves Udens while the humans despised them and referred to them as invaders. The humans were called Worms.
The human civilization fell to a crumble, everything they had worked to maintain; order, society, community, care, fell apart beyond help. The Udens made sure none of them became literate, learned how to fight, use a weapon, or anything that could possibly help them to fight back again. The humans lost all hope of survival. They lost the will to fight, and soon were satisfied with being the worms they had become.
Fifty long years had passed since the Udens had invaded. They were thriving on Uden2 while the humans lived in scum and could care less what happened. Suddenly a spark of hope shone in the humans. A group of ambitious humans hoped to drive out the Udens back to Uden1, and gain back what they had lost . . . They called themselves Sento.
Sento
CHAPTER #1
Kai was born in year 2103. She was born in a small shack near a polluted lake in area 2.4. She was raised in a small family and never learned how to read or write. She had little friends, her only friends were the children that lived in area 2.4 with her. The fenced-in 5-mile circle was home to her, no one who lived there had ever left, and she had no idea what lie beyond the wall. When she turned 7 she started to gain a curiosity and asked her 20-year-old brother if it was possible to leave.
“Never say that!” He yelled and smacked her across the face.
She realized that she should never speak about leaving, but this just spiked her curiosity even more. One day she tried to climb over the wall. She used firewood and slowly piled it up to the top of the 20-foot wall and climbed up. When she reached the top she looked down, there was and Uden standing below with a strange item in his hand, his green-silver hair and purple eyes made him easy to tell apart from her species. She was scared of Udens, she knew that they were on the top of the food-chain and wouldn’t hesitate to kill a Worm like her. She looked around and saw many other wall-surrounded areas just like the one she lived in, they all had no exit or entrance and each of them had a label as in 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, etc. Kai wanted badly to go explore the different places and make new friends, but she didn’t know how to get down, and even if she did, she knew the Uden at the bottom didn’t want anyone to go in or out of the walls.
Kai suddenly felt nauseous at the thought of the Uden looking up and seeing her. She didn’t know why, but she was scared of dying. She had never known she could feel this way, there was no reason for her to live, nothing she did in her short life would make a difference . . . Kai jumped down the wall and removed her staircase of firewood. She promised herself that she would never try to escape again.
*************
When Kai was 13-years-old, she became distant, she always dreamed about the other side of the wall, the Udens, finding a way down, but she could never come up with anything. Her family worried about her, but didn’t try to talk to her. Kai became obsessed with getting out. She couldn’t live out her whole life here, then she would be worthless, she knew too little to die.
*************
It was getting dark out and Kai told her friends that she had to go home now. They said goodbye and she ran off. On her way home she saw the wall towering over her. She stopped walking and stared at it.
“Hey you,” Someone whispered from the tree near the wall, “what are you waiting for?”
“Huh?” She looked up in shock to see a boy in the tree standing on a branch.
“You are longing to leave, aren’t you?” He smiled devilishly. “You just have no idea how to because you are stupid.”
Kai couldn’t believe this, he shows up out of nowhere and now he was insulting her. it was true of course, but she couldn’t help it, there was no way she could learn when there was no one to teach her!
“I don’t know who you are,” She said furiously, “but I already hate you!” She stuck out her tongue at the boy and continued to walk home again.
Kai heard him jump down from the tree.
“What if I say that I came from area 5.6?”
Her eyes widened and she whipped around and glared and him. He was grinning in a taunting way. She wanted to punch him.
“I don’t believe you!” She yelled.
“My name’s Katsumi,” He said calmly, “I am 14-years-old, i know how to read and write, use a weapon, fight, and I’m a member of Sento.”
“What the heck!? That doesn’t prove anything! How do I know you’re telling the truth, no Worm is allowed to learn those things, it’s impossible to anyway! No one knows so no one could’ve taught you!” Her face was red with anger, she had wanted to know these things all her life, then this dumb kid shows up and slams in her face that he has already accomplished more than she ever will.
Katsumi pulled up his pant leg to his ankle and pointed to a tattoo that had numbers on it, every Worm got those tattoos when they were born to keep them organized in their area number.
“Those numbers are 5.6,” He said, “But you wouldn’t know that, would you?”
Kai was in total shock. “H-how?” She muttered as quietly as possible.
“Hey, if you beg, I might just teach you.” He was smiling evilly again.
“No way, I’ll never do that!”
“Then I guess you’ll never learn.”
“ . . .”
“C’mon, say ‘Pretty please mister?’ all cute-like!”
“Please . . . T-teach me . . .”
“Alright!”
*************
Every day at 9AM Kai would leave her house after breakfast and tell her parents she was out to play with her friends. She went to the trees by the wall and Katsumi and her would practice reading and writing in the dirt with sticks. After six months the day finally came when Kai could finally read and write fluently. She was so proud of herself and felt like she could die happily now.
“Thank you very much or teaching me . . .” Kai muttered to Katsumi.
“You’re welcome, it took a while, but it looks like you’re happy.”
“Now I can die happily thanks to you!” She smiled gently.
“Actually,” said Katsumi, “There is something else I would like you to do with me.”
“What more can we do? I mean, I guess we could teach everyone in area 2.4 how to do what we can, then everyone can be ha-”
“No,” he said, cutting her off, “I want you to join me in Sento.”
“Oh yeah,” She said, remembering when they first met and he said that he was part of ‘Sento’, “I always wondered what that was . . .”
“Well,” Katsumi started to explain, “I came here hoping to find a partner. I ended up being very lucky and coming across you staring at the wall as soon as I came in.”
“Why do you need a partner, what exactly is Sento?”
“Sento is . . . It’s an organization that works to rid earth of those filthy invaders by driving them away back to their own planet!”
Kai stared at Katsumi in shock. She had never heard him talk like that before. His hatred to the Udens was very clear to her now, however. She had no idea that that was the whole reason he was teaching her. Kai felt sort of used and hurt, but at the same time, she felt angry with the Udens too, although she wasn’t sure why she felt this way.
“Why do you hate Udens so much?” She needed an answer.
Katsumi’s silver hair was over his eyes and Kai couldn’t read his expression. Suddenly she saw tears falling down his cheeks and he clenched his fists. He began explaining to Kai everything. How the Udens were not originally from this planet, how Worms used to be known as humans, what the world used to be like, how our planet used to be known as Earth, not Uden2, how the Udens killed and controlled the humans for their own needs, and even how when his parents gave birth to Katsumi, the Udens tried to kill him because every family was only allowed to have two children. His parents refused to let Katsumi be killed so the Udens killed his parents and allowed him to live. Katsumi told Kai how he immediately joined Sento to avenge his parents death then became even more absorbed into the organization. He gained even more hatred when he heard about the history of this planet. When Katsumi had finished his story, Kai felt the same hatred he felt.
