Well, now In Honors English, we're on the topic of Shakespeare. His plays are written as Sonnets, which is a type of poetry. So then, our teacher started to be the awesome, pain-in-the butt that she loves to be, tells us to write a Sonnet.
Now that Sonnet can be about anything.
In my opinion, Sonnets are pretty easy to write. What keeps me from writing one is coming up with a topic.
Now Sonnets have a ryhme scheme. It has to have 14 lines with 10 syllabus for each line.
The flow of the scheme goes like this:
A
B
A
B
C
D
C
D
E
F
E
F
G
G
Now, it was pretty difficult for me to come up with a topic. So, instead of planning things out, I just wrote what was on my mind. Of course, I started yesterday and was only done with half of it. I had the first verse down and only half of the second verse. I had a friend who is also in the same H. English class as me, read it. She said that it was pretty good. And one thing thogh. I SUCK at poetry!
Anyways, here's the Sonnet I completed today at home and that I'm going to turn in tomorrow.
The clouds cover the night sky as I sleep
Dreaming of the time when I first met him
The snow falls down on the city to reap
As I open my eyes, the light is dim
I recalled what he said to me that day
"Do you not have a place to return to?"
I met him during the late spring in May
"In your lonely soul, does your heart hold true?"
His hair was the color of ivory
Something about him was mysterious
He is now but a concealed memory
He was a man who was devious
His fate had told him that soon, he will die
So long in the night, he wept and cried
So, what do ya think? It's the first time I've ever seriously written poetry so go easy on me! AND BE HONEST!!!!
