It was Seven o'clock in the morning, 500 years after the end of the world, and the Goblins had raided the cellar again...
That's the beginning of the book I had just read...er...listened to (It was an Audiobook). It's called Runemarks and it was written by Joanne Harris. It's sort of a Norse Mythology based storyline with the Magical System consisting of Runes from the Elder & Younger Futhark and the fictional universe being based off of Yggdrasil.
The Story is about a young girl named Maddy who since a young age was an outsider in her small town. At the age of Seven she meets an old traveler who teaches her about the stories of the gods, spells and runes, and the geography of the Nine Worlds. When sent to "World Below" She meets a series of characters and gets into loads of situations that end up with her meeting Loki, Mimir, Hel, and other members of the Aesir and Vanir clans.
Something that I have noticed is that the Runes on some of the Main Characters' bodies are similar to the birthmarks of the Signers and Dark Signers from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.
I think it's a good book and anyone who likes Norse Mythology (but not so much as to critisize every event like a total loser stressed ). The characters are very interesting and each have their own personality. From Loki's playfulness to One-Eye's Subtle Humor or Nat's obessiveness with "The Word" rolleyes
