Tell me what you got away with...
So, on thursday, the local lexmark plant had a bit of an "industrial accident". Improperly mixing two components on a large scale resulted in a cloud of noxious gas being released over my hometown. They evacuated parts of the IBM plant where I work, and called the residents within a 2-mile radius, telling them to "close all doors and windows, and remain in your homes". So, I got thursday off from work, basically. "Industrial accident day" is my new favorite holiday.
Birthday is coming up. err.. in.. 11 days, it looks like. Fun s**t, apparently. I'm not too excited. It means I'll be able to walk into a bar and order a drink. I'll be able to buy booze and proceed to get drunk. Legally. That hasn't really stopped me for the better part of 6 years, so, I remain unimpressed. I guess that's the downside of having 21 year old friends, dating a 21 year old, and knowing where all the good parties where when I was in school.
My friends are more excited about my birthday than I am. However, they're also lazy, so I'm getting some gifts early, and that's been quite good. So far, I've received "Eddie Izzard: Dress to kill" on DVD, and the first 2 tpb's of Frank Millers wonderfully noir "Sin City" in paperback. Of course, this means I'll have to finish off that series now, too. It's damn good, so, that's not really a complaint.
To be honest, I never really expected to make it to 21. Not trying to be melodramatic or whiny or all that rot, just stating what was, at one time, fact. I just expected to kick off this mortal coil before now. If it wasn't the booze, drugs, smoking, and unsafe driving.. It was everything else. For the same reason I don't talk much of my past, really. I think I'm fully entitled not to, as the case may be. The last few people I've spoken to regarding it have ended up in tears.
Of course, maybe I'm just a really bad storyteller.
"The Movies" shipped last week, and I received my copy hot from the shipping box at EB. After plowing through singleplayer so I could get a fully-featured sandbox mode running, I'm still quite impressed by the game, and it continues to keep me feeling all tingly in my creative bits. For a test, I made a short 1:30 clip, a little homage to the opening of the dark tower series, and it came out rather well. If people want to se it, I'll try and get it hosted and posted for ya'll.
Basically, this puts "The Grey project" back on, and I've already gotten some of the opening blocked out. Therein lies the issue, though. According to the lionhead TOS, if I use third-party editing tools, or any copyright material in my production, it cannot be hosted or released on the lionhead site, which is the easiest portal for Movies releases. Damn, and double damn. However, i'm also thinking that this project, if successful, warrants being done to the best of my ability, and the software will allow.. So, I might just say "******** it" and do it my way, and put my FTP back up for release.
Downside being that now that I know the capabilites of the software, I know it's not going to work for Part 2 of the series, and I'll have real issues getting Part 3 completed... However, since this is my only course of action to get this goddamn project done, lacking a competent graphic artist with scads of time and good access to me, it will have to do. It may even come down to me doing some major rewrites, and still getting part 2 done, because this project is going to eat my brain until i get it done. I've been working ont he ******** for close to three eyars now, so.. it's time I get it out and over with.
