Midnight Afterlife
Chapter #1
Ever hear that song “you gotta party like its 1999” turns out they where just a hundred years off. In 2099 every thing that we worked so hard for plummeted down. It was the start of a nuclear war. The population of America went down by 75% it was a year. For all my family and I knew the nukes could have been done in a day as you see we are one of the few families’s gathered up by the government to be able to repopulate. I was born two years before this catastrophic event we spent 10 freaking years in there I grew up in a trash bin they called shelter but on that faithful day that the gates open I was in front waiting to see this world I heard about and had only faint memories of. My dreams then were crushed. Most people saw the sun and had looked out to see the happiness of a town just in the distance. I just looked right past that and saw only the bare wastelands and the dead plants.
Two Months Later
“Happy birthday sweetie” my mother said to me handing me a package I quickly opened it to find a cd
“Wow!!!” I exclaimed as it was extremely rare to find these anywhere. Almost every kid around our odd town had a collection of these more than not had them mainly for bragging rights. It was an old cd probably 1930’s music my personal favorite
“Play it” my mom said as I was already half way to my old boom box I popped it in. I was particularly fond of this cd and I didn’t know why. But I let it play until I realized that I had to be off. I quickly staggered trying to put the cd in its protective case and putting it up on my shelf. I yelled my goodbye’s and ran out the door.
As I got to my father’s store he quickly greeted me.
“Hey bud, happy birthday finally twelve huh” he said with a chuckle “you know what your 12th birthday mean’s. Have you decided yet.”
“Of course and you already know”
“Yah true.” He said handing me a package I could already tell what it was before I opened it. It was my own gun “ I was afraid you might change your mind last minute to cook or something” I chuckled a bit “ come back safe ok” he said as I was almost out the door
“I will don’t worry besides im not leaving today I still gotta pack” I said as I ran outside to see Angie
“Happy birthday, what you pick huh.” She asked with excitement
“Duh adventurer what else” I replied to her
“Ugg I cant wait till I become twelve just a few more weeks I hope I can get enough money for supplies” she sighed
“Well I better get to the commissions office to Inform them of my choice.” I was running out of time any moment now they could make the choice for me. I quickly made it just in time.
“I take it you have made your decision let’s see… Mister Amel.”
“Yes my council I would like to be n adventurer”
“Hmm Im surprised there aren’t more people trying out for that job” one of the council member’s chuckled
“Everyone’s always to nervous” said another
“silence” said the one in the middle “don’t scare the kid. Now let us discuss this will you. I will call you in when we are done”. I walked outside and sat down next to the door anxiously awaiting the councils choice. The moment they called me in I was ready for anything, happiness or disappointment
