Welcome to chatterbox.
After personals went the way of the dodo and catholic virgins, Chatterbox became the new breeding grounds for sexually frustrated 13 year olds who couldn't get enough from the local dog.
Chatterbox was created for the sheer intent of holding everything that didn't belong anywhere better. Basically, the refuse of Gaia. Now, not actually trash, since it didn't violate any rules, it gets shoveled on to chatterbox for the specific reason that.. we had nowehere else to put it.
Now, if history has shown us anything, the proportional intelligence of a crowd falls with each additional person added. The mob mentality takes over, and people resort to basic rutting and hatred instincts.
Is this human nature? Can we blame the poor, dishevelled chatterboxers for their actions?
Hell yes, we can. Just because you feel like endlessly spamming in a vain effort to gain gold, doesn't mean you need to resort to your basest ******** instincts. Trying to ******** anything within radius, posting pornography, saying whatever trivial crap crosses your enfeebled mind.. It's all here.

Of course, this situation in the real world is called a riot of morons. We call in the riot gear, we rain teargas from above, and we vainly try to extinguish the couch fires and right the overturned cars. Because, if there's one thing mob mentality is good for, it's causing chaos and disorder.
So, if we take the real world approach, and apply it to gaia standards, this means a massive mod influx, a veritable rush against the normandy beaches of chatterbox. However, fearing the loss of moderator sanity, and given that most mods shudder internally and externally at the mention of chatterbox, the force applied was rather small.
Now, fighting chaos on the scale of chatterbox is a war of attrition. Rationally, you should just build a big fence around the place, and never let people out. Since that really doesn't apply to Gaia, there were a select few individuals brave enough to volunteer for this expedition. So, into the breaches they went. We didn't mind, they were a rather odd bunch to begin with. Then, we got rid of personals.
This is generally regarded as the wisest possible move.
Except, where do all the personals whores go, when personals is no longer there? Well, they went to chatterbox, because, quite frankly, most forums at the time were being ran with an iron fist and a wang of gold. If you, the lowly personals fiend, were to wander into them, you would be smacked so hard your grandparents would feel it. Keeping the bastards at bay was easy enough, because chatterbox was sitting there, a veritable Las Vegas, with which they could peddle digital a** on every corner. Now, suddenly our moderation force isn't enough.

Now, with the report system active, we've introduced a way for people to police themselves. But.. wait.. If people really are capable of policing themselves effectively, then.. why the ******** did chatterbox become so ghetto to begin with? They've obviously shown an aptitude for selling smut to the highest bidder, disregarding any and all rules, and spreading rumors and lies like wildfire. These talents, however, do not play well to a self-policing system.
In fact, every user who called for a "moderator-free Gaia" was merely asking for chatterbox to become EVERY ******** FORUM. These people obviously never learned the phrase "don't s**t where you eat."
As of right now, this ******** second.. 25 pages back in chatterbox, the last updated thread was less than an hour ago. 25 PAGES of THREADS, in an hour. I'm willing to lay money on the line saying you could find at least 5 threads per page that aren't allowed on Gaia. On each page, you will find 20 TOS/forum rules violations, at the very least, perpetrated by users in these threads. These will go unreported, unnotticed. Nothing will be done.
Now, the smarmy among you will say something along the lines of "Well, then why don't you do something, mister self-righteous?" Because it's not ******** possible for one person to handle that vast of a problem. It's not possible for 7 people. This problem grows every day, and now it's starting to spill over.
[********]
It's starting to spill over, and GD is right around the corner.
