Well, today I figured out how low my teachers are as well as my high school.
Remember on my last journal, I talked about a lip sync contest and how I did Elwood J. Blues' moves from Saturday Night Live to the song Soul Man. Well, in a hallway of my school they posted the lip sync contest pictures up. Everyone's act was featured except mine.
And I really don't get it to be honest. I mean, my friend and I did a classic; a song that most people know. The song itself is not only a classic but done by the best rhythm & blues band I've ever heard regardless of what others have to say.
I know the other acts were good; my friend did Loveshack and as much as there's this one girl I hate I have to admit her act was pretty damn good. The acts that won 1,2,and 3 were.....well, horrible. 1st place, their act definitely deserved it...even though they mimicked an outdated boy band but still they were good. And do you want to know why they won those places? 2 words. Boys and popularity. The teachers who were judging the thing well....they favor boys over girls and they're girls! Keep in mind these are highschool dudes and the teachers are married, got kids, and older.
Now for popularity; well...it's a law around here. It's like if you're popular you win, if you're not you lose. And in the words of Joliet Jake Blues I say: bull *goes to say second half of the word but is cut off* It seriously is that.
So far for my act of Soul Man, I have met over 20 people who attended the lip sync contset. They said we should of won. I couldn't agree with them more.
As for the teachers themselves there is another reason why they went ahead and chose the 3 acts aside from the boys and popularity. There was this other teacher who hates me completely (but hey she brought it down on herself) and told the other 2 teachers not to give me that many points because: 1- I wasn't a dude, 2-I'm not popular, 3-I'm hated for retarded reasons,4-Jealousy (I swear it's a disease here) and 5-Who listens to Soul Man anymore? So listening to the teacher she is they marked me and my partner down 1 point away from 3rd place and 5 points away from 2nd place. And instead the person that won 3rd just stood around, ran like an idiot, and the act itself was dull.
But teachers, people still do listen to Soul Man because it's a classic unlike 1000 Miles which has been used so many times that it's outdated. It's a good song but still.......
Besides, people still do listen to old music. And guess what? I'm one of them. I know some kids listen to really old songs...yet they don't even know who The Blues Brothers are..and it saddens me. If they can listen to other music around the era of The Blues Brothers, then they should at least know of them let alone some of their hits like Rubber Biscuit and Soul Man as well as others.
