Karil stood up and stretched. Today was the day that the celebration would be held. She had maids straighten out the guest rooms for the guests who were planning on staying the night here and going home the next day. The preparations had been going on for almost four days now and Karil hoped that everything would be perfect.
Karil’s best friend, Alex, was also coming to the ball and feast that Karil’s servants had taken so much time planning. Alex and her had known each other since the age of nine. Their parents had been good friends, and so were they. Alex’s parents were farmers and Alex was a horse breeder since she had loved horses so much. She bred some of the fastest and strongest horses and stallions the people of Seravira had ever used. Alex was the one who gave Myrna to Karil when they turned seventeen.
A maid suddenly came into the gardens and bowed before Karil. “A lady has come to see you. She says she wishes to speak to you immediately, Milady.”
Karil nodded, her trail of thought broken. “Have the guards keep her in the entrance hall, and ask her if she would like to join me for breakfast.”
“Yes, Milady,” the maid said walking away from the princess.
Karil stood up and waked out of the garden and made her journey to the entrance hall. She passed by the dining hall where a long table was decorated with candles and empty platters. The walls were also decorated with festive tapestries. This was definitely going to be a banquet to remember and with that thought, she made her way to the entrance hall where she could see a scrawny woman in a simple gray dress. Her hair was short and a bit frizzy and her face showed she was angry.
“I need to talk to Princess Karil immediately! Now, you take me to her, or else…”
“I’m already here. Now, would you like to tell me why you are arguing with my guard?”
The scrawny woman marched up to the princess and slapped her across the cheek. Karil hissed from the pain and touched her cheek.
“Excuse me, but why did you just slap me?” Karil asked, enraged.
“Because you are a stupid princess who needs to be taught a lesson!”
Karil motioned for her guard to stay put, seeing as he was about to rush over to grab the woman.
Karil spoke calmly and slowly, “I would like to know what brings you to the castle, my home, and have you raise a hand to your future queen.”
The woman pulled a strand of her frizzy red hair out of the way of her face. “Future queen? Future queen! There is no future queen in this room! The only people I see are a guard, a maid, and a low life lady who can’t figure anything out!”
Karil had had enough, and raised her voice as she spoke, “I do not wish to be treated this way in my own home! Now, if your not going to do tell me why you are here, I’ll throw you out myself!”
The scrawny woman put her hands on Karil’s shoulders. “Can you not see what is wrong with your life, Girl? You are a twenty three year old, ruling a kingdom by yourself, and have no intentions of marrying and having yourself an heir!”
Karil almost blushed but hid it the best she could. “Um…Would you please tell me your name… and would you like to continue this conversation in the library over some hot oatmeal…?”
“My name’s Terry Witherwing. Feel free to call me Terry, Your Highness.”
Karil sighed in relief inwardly. “Okay, Terry. Would you please join me so we can talk in private.”
Terry nodded. “I’m not hungry but I will talk with you.”
“Then follow me, Terry,” Karil said as she walked off, dismissing the guard at the front entry.
The two walked in silence to the library, where they sat at a table with a few candles placed almost precisely in the center of the table. Karil’s oatmeal came and Terry began to explain the “predicament” Karil was facing.
“Now, listen here, Karil Seravir! With the adventures you go on these days, you might wind up dead!” Terry began.
Karil rolled her eyes and motioned for Terry to continue.
To ensure that this kingdom is in safe hands when you die, you need to find a man to marry! You need an heir! You need someone who can take over when you’re gone or unable to run your kingdom. You also need to divide your workload into two! If you haven’t noticed, your not as healthy as you were when the elders were in control of the kingdom when you were underage!”
Karil nearly choked on her oatmeal. She nodded and swallowed the spoonful of her oatmeal with difficulty. “Well, what do you propose I do about that, Ms. Terry Witherwing?”
Terry sighed. “Have you not been listening to what I have been saying since we met?”
Karil swallowed another spoonful. “No, I have, but I have a question. Who gave you permission to come into my home and tell me what I need to do?”
Terry grinned, “Would you believe me if I told you it was your father? If not, I can show you the proof.”
Karil was shocked. “What proof do you have?”
(Strange part, but i needed it specifically to shape and form the plot XP)
