THE DOLL
It sat there every day and night
Her eyes so dark and skin so light
Forever glaring as she would
I ignored her the best I could
I left her be and passed on by
But the doll had somehow caught my eye
The porcelain body appeared to be strong
Yet she'd been here for a while too long
I wondered if she would ever break
So I could give her shards to the lake
She couldn't stay another day
I had just wanted her to go away
I felt that death was at my door
A feeling that I could not ignore
I couldn't touch her
That, I was sure
So my savior, my cousin, came to town
And dropped the doll to the ground
I swear I saw a shadow rise
From where the broken body lies
Her eyes so dark and skin so light
Forever glaring as she would
I ignored her the best I could
I left her be and passed on by
But the doll had somehow caught my eye
The porcelain body appeared to be strong
Yet she'd been here for a while too long
I wondered if she would ever break
So I could give her shards to the lake
She couldn't stay another day
I had just wanted her to go away
I felt that death was at my door
A feeling that I could not ignore
I couldn't touch her
That, I was sure
So my savior, my cousin, came to town
And dropped the doll to the ground
I swear I saw a shadow rise
From where the broken body lies
