At my house, we've got one of those security dongles where there's a sensor on every door and window, and it beeps whenever one opens. Well, last night at 1:30, it went off. So I go into my parents' room, not even sleepy because I was still awake because I'm nocturnal or something, and when my dad goes to look at which door is open, you know what it says? "ALARM 08 CELLULAR BACKUP". Yeah, the backup battery ran out. Not exactly a good reason to alarm the family. So the company calls, they do that when your alarm goes off. My mom says "We're fine, my husband's going to check it ou-hello? Sir?" The guy either hung up or the call was dropped. I assume he called the cops, because they showed up 5 minutes later. 2 cars. My dad explained everything, but it was still kind of weird to have the cops at your house. I wonder if the neighbors saw?
This isn't the first time the thing has screwed up. It's the third or fourth time, actually. And we've NEVER had an actual case where the thing was needed. I wanted to trash it from the day we got it, but nooo.
On a slightly different note, I knew it was nothing when I heard it. You see, at night, we set it so there's no warning-as soon as you open something, a banshee scream is emitted and everyone freaks out. Well, this wasn't a banshee scream, it was a vaguely ambulance-sounding alarm, along with the words "ALARM. BACKUP." in a soothing feminine voice that is actually very scary. So I went back to bed.
