Snowflakes drift to the ground
and we think, "Such a lovely world
where each flake is unique;
together, blanketing the earth
in glistening beauty."
Yet we see our brothers,
families of different cultures,
and we think, "Subordinate monsters!
Different than us,
threatening our position in this world,
so ugly."
And our neighbors are enslaved
America's promise; freedom denied
until we catch on
The slave trader's singing "Amazing Grace"
We all hold hands
and we think, "Such a lovely world..."

Description:
I wrote this poem for a contest that the community college was holding during Black History Month and won second place, but the recognition wasn't the point.
I love the meaning behind this. What would the world be like if the ending was true?
