Last night, for the FIRST time, my comp suffered the "black screen of death" on startup.
The LCD monitor gets its power through the tower, wo it wasn't the coonection - power was on and I can hear the computer responding when I diddle with the mouse & keyboard.
BUT. BLACK SCREEN OF NOTHINGNESS.
I can't FRICKEN SEE WHAT I WAS DOING!
So. Urm. Went to baby sis' comp and googled, seems like sometimes it goes away by itself. Since there isn't a way to SHUT down the OS X (I'm on 10.2 - Jaguar, NOT Panther) while I'm blinded (like you can with windows), I had to unplug it physically.
... it's fixed this morning, obviously. But I CAN'T FRICKEN UNDERSTAND THE FIXES now I'm googling for the situation. the WHAT kernel goes where whatwhabWUH?
.... I'll calm down later and try to cram my brain on this - I'm no techhie, just an interpretor between the average user and tecchie, vocabulary/understanding-wise.

Hectic. Spazzing out.
Meeting with THREE different friends then and coordinating madly. One silly girl whom I asked TWO weeks ago I can try to get permission from my parents to let her stay overnight for the con finally decided she's coming, yes, so mad scramble at 1am last night to get permission and exchange phone #s. @@;;;
Calling another in about 30 minutes to see when/where/how we wanna meet up - I'm gonna end up running to meet people ALL OVER. XDDD
and yeah, that means YOU, ebm-chan. XD
EDIT: or not. Have fun in Chicago, ebm-chan! heart
On Sunday am going out with family to Canadian National Expo - might be I'd meet shosho there too, if they're going on the same day.

Apparently best bang for the buck for photoquality prints (but not text) is a Canon i960.
Thinking about it. grrrr.

I need a new printer.
Due to previous experiences with two brands, I'm boycotting and NOT CONSIDERING their !#$!@$%^!$ products entirely.
FYI, HP because they have a built in wear-and-tear of about 3 years with their comps. And LEXMARK because their cartridges suck and TWO cartridges are usually enough for me to get another printer of the model they're used for. BASTIDS
I'm debating on what to go for.
The Canon MP series look good - they're multifunciton (includes scanner) and print in coour.
The MP360 is an inkjet with flatbed scanning, and about $149.96 CDN.
The cartridges aren't too bad either - 9.96 for the Black, 27.96 for the Colour, and I can do borderless printing.
DAMMIT ALL MY PROGRAMS ARE IN OS X AND THIS JOY OF A PRINTER IS ONLY OS 9 OR CLASSIC COMPATIBLE #@_$%*@#&$(*!@!!!
Canon MP730 has fax function added (which I don't really need) but is a COLOUR LASER PRINTER. eek at only $329.99.
Dunno what the cartridges cost yet - still doing research. heart On that, I mean.
NOT APPLE COMPATIBLE. crying
THEN I'm also considering a brand I've never used before.
Korea's SAMSUNG CLP-500.
heart It's a whooping $599 after rebate, and the CMY cartridges are $172.96 EACH, and the black cheaper at $164.96.
No scanning capabilities, and it only does letter size.
After further research, found this is a GOOD printer but not what I'm looking for - it can't do gloss prints or anything of higher quality. I think I'm gonnna have to go back to inkjet. crying
What should I be getting? I'm majoring in graphic design and I need something better than reg'ol' inkjet to print out assignments. xp
Anyone has any more suggestions or advice would be MUCHLY be appreciated.
Looks like my favorite Brand, Canon, is NOT very mac friendly. I WON'T TOUCH HP OR LEXMARK PRINTERS WITH MY WORST ENEMY'S INTESTINES.
... time to do research on brother and samsung. crying ;

OKAY, forget Brother and SAMSUNG for now. I'm just gonna focus on CANON a brand I KNOW I CAN TRUST with REASONABLE INK CARTRIDGE PRICES for the printers and printers that DO NOT BREAK DOWN after three years of use.

Canon i475D (~$99)
both use same cartridges, black and colour, $7 & $17 respectively.
Canon i900D ($181)

Shush, I'm not being cheap. xd Just finished colouring a hawt lesbian JuriXUtena pic for her snail mail card and it's going out today.
Yes, I scanned the inked pic before PHYSICALLY colouring (cuz I do my colouring w/ marker, the CG'd probably look better).
Hmmm. Wonder if I'm good enough to start taking commissions? xd

I don't dislike dogs, but I prefer cats to dogs.
Talked with five cats today.
Ella, the 'cat lady' who feeds strays (she buys a TON of canned tuna and dry catfood from parental units' conv. store), has two pampered cats. Lily, a female tabby, and Joey, a fat black neutered tom. Lily is NOT a people cat. Joey loves to be petted. biggrin
Gave him quite a brush down today.
There's a pretty lilac Siamese & a black longhair living on the first floor of my apartment complex. Meow'ed at them tonight when coming home, and they both came to meow back, the siamese more vocally than the black. Which is to be expected. Seemed to think my hand was too sweaty for petting.
Another apartment downstairs - their window sees into their living room. I knew they had a tabby kitten, who sometimes respond, so I mew'ed there too. Got a squeaky "meewww-eeep" that I've never heard before back, and a head poking out of the curtains to stare at me.
They got the kitten another tabby playmate, or I just kept mistaking one for the other before.
