Sleepless Guardian
The people of a peaceful city lay down their heads and close their eyes to dream.
They know not what prices are paid to keep things as they are.
But why should they, for to them it is the way things have always been.
They know nothing of violence and pain or the horrors of brutal war.
This is because of their guardian who fights to keep them pure.
She and her falcon spirits that are not of this world.
She takes upon the suffering that they would have to endure.
But if you listen closely the secrets of her past will be unfurled
She once was human, a simple girl who lived among her kin.
The quiet village in which she lived eroded by time, its name long gone from memory.
And as in all great warrior’s stories' it was on a dark night that this tale begins.
A night with no moon or way of true light to reveal her enemy.
A dark army spread across the land destroying everything in its path.
And on this night, this cold black night, it came and took away all she held dear.
As she clung to her mother’s corpse she swore she would fight back.
With shaking but determined hands she drew her father’s sword; her destiny was now clear.
The once great force soon fell by her mighty blade.
And slowly she became an ethereal being of neither utter darkness nor pure light.
The blood of many stains her hands as the price of justice is paid.
But only those who are corrupt are the ones to fear her smite.
So as you sleep, think of those who lay awake at night.
Just so you may feel protected.
Because millions of lives have been lost in the fight.
So that the evil in this world may be extracted.

The other day I was channel surfing, as we all know we do when there is nothing 'good' on despite the 500+ channels on the satelite stare ...Anyway, I came across a news channel that was announcing the declaration of Quebec (that is a province in Canada for the few of you who may not know) becoming its own 'Nation within Canada', needless to say my interest was instantly caught and I became enraptured with what was going on.
My first thoughts on the subject was 'this is utter bullshit...' How can a place be declared its own nation within a country? Normally I attempt to see any situation from all points of view before giving an opinion but it seemed it would not help me at the time. I just couldn't wrap my mind around why someone would want Quebec to be an independant place? They had no real source of industry or income for one, and if you don't have money to spend then how are you going to support your people? If there is nothing going out then eventually nothing will come in leaving the new-found 'Nation' all on its own. No money=no food=no people=no jobs=no money; it is a cripling circle. Admittedly, almost all of Canada's politics is centralized in Quebec but if they ever become an independant country even that will disappear. To top it all off Quebec covers a manority of Canada separating the east island provinces from the main land, and should its independance prosper then they would be splitting Canada. Now why would you want to cut off part of a counrty purely out of pride?
As I said before in the previous journal post, sometimes I just don't get people...
