Evolving Item Fanfic: Inari's Beads (Chapter 3: Meaning)
Had time to see the old monk from the shrine where these beads originally belonged before going out to get rid of some scumbags later that night. As I reached on the top of the stairs with the shrine in front of me, the old monk greeted me and invited me inside the shrine. It seems that he anticipated my visit and looked prepared to answer all my questions.
I started off with the dream I had last night: the black figure, it having the same beads as I had and the Japanese statement that I could hardly remember. The old monk gave me a simple reply. "May you walk the path of justice, young one." I was totally stumped on what he told me but the old monk assured me that I will get the answers soon and not to worry. He told me that as long as I kept going the path of righteousness and justice, great things are bound to happen to me. That got me stumped too but I appreciated what the old monk told me.
When I noticed night was about to fall, I hurriedly finished the Oolong Tea he served earlier and made my way out. Just as I reached the shrine doors, he told one more thing:
"May destiny guide you, young one. You will meet someone who will unlock your fullest power."
I didn't get that one, thinking that this power is just all mumbo jumbo but I acknowledged the "words of wisdom" that I got. I nodded back at him and made my way back to the apartment for the stint with scumbags later. The phone rang and I took the call.
"Manny, get your bike ready." Crystal blurted out before I introduced myself on the phone.
"What's up?"
"It's the Wanna-B's, the infamous biker gang that harass anyone in their path. Looks like they've gone too far this time."
"The reason why I should kill them?"
"They're planning to take over a spot of Durem. Happens to be the clock tower. With that much attention, it's going to get really messy.
"I should teach those bastards a lesson to mess with the peace."
"That's what I wanna hear! Do what you gotta do."
"Roger. I'm off."
Got back at the apartment and geared myself up. Missed this outfit. It was one of the outfits I came up and worked my butt off for gold. I decided to bring the beads along with me to catch their attention and for luck, perhaps. All I need now is a suitable weapon. The Plasma Blade? Too Sci-Fi. Katana? Overused. G Blade? Ain't cosplaying. Baseball Bat? Perfect. Time for me to head over to Durem and time to whack some skulls...

Evolving Item Fanfic: Inari's Beads (Chapter 2: Visions)
After the quick debriefing with the boss, I immediately retired for a good day's work. Took the bus going home and made sure I didn't doze off during the trip. The last time I did that some thief was daring enough to cut a slit on my pants and slide out my cellphone out. Ever since that day, I always kept myself alert and stab any daring thief who would try to steal any of my goods.
I dropped at a bus stop where my place is just a block away, an apartment with signs of low maintenance. Though I do monthly cleanings myself, looks like I make more of a mess than the cleanings. Nevertheless, I went to grab a slice of Italian Pizza that I got from the pizzeria days ago, stripped all of my clothes, threw them in laundry, had a shower, dressed up for sleep and hit the sack.
Knowing that I had to "protect" those beads that I got as a reward, I wore them in my sleep. Besides, this was a prized possession and I didn't want to lose it. Well, my O RLY? Hat tops everything on the list. I closed my eyes and retired for the night.
Next thing I knew that I was in some void, a blank, empty space. Then I saw visions of fire, people burning in front of a silhouette with floating flames around him. I could tell it's a him because of his build. Plus, it seems that the flames morphed into different things. But as the figure was done doing his job, it looked straight back at me with a flaming stare from its eyes. There was something I noticed from the figure as well: he was wearing the same exact beads that I possess as well.
After a long exchange of stares, it sounded like he was speaking to me. He was saying something in Japanese but I had no idea what he was trying to say. I could remember a few words, though. As he turned his back and walked away, I tried to ask him who he was. When I tried to reach out to him, a circle of flame suddenly formed around me. I tried to find a way to escape but the circle kept shrinking and shrinking. I felt the heat flowing through my body and fear totally got me soaking wet with sweat. As the flames drew too close, I was going to anticipate the pain by shouting out.
I suddenly woke up from the dream, with adrenaline pumping and a sweaty bed. Damn. I knew I left the AC off for the night. No wonder I was drenched in my own sweat. But for some reason, I still felt so hot even though the temperature reading on my desk clock-slash-pen holder-slash-paper weight. I really could use a shower right now.
Unlike most day jobs, I get my jobs through a phone call and I get the chance to accept or decline offers. I got the phone call before stepping into the shower and listen as Crystal quickly asked.
"Not much bounties for the meantime but are you up to for a little side job?"
"What do I have to do?" I replied with fatigue from the dream.
"Not much. Just a some troublemakers in the dark alley of Durem."
"If it's not the Kuro's Gang, I'm up for it. Details?"
"Just a bike gang. Try to blend in first before beating the hell out of them. It's a night shift too."
"Have me registered and fax me the rest. Looks like I have some time kill as well."
"Got it, Manny. By the way, you sound tired. Did you play your online games right after the last kill?"
I tried to come up with something explain to Crystal but I replied that I just did my usual chores and collapsed on the bed.
"You'd better watch yourself, dude. No one's getting any younger."
"I'll take that as a compliment. Later."
Ended the call and had that shower I was supposed to have five minutes ago. Looks like I need to pay that monk a visit and maybe I could get some answers from that dream. Felt so real...

Evolving Item Fanfic: Inari's Beads (Chapter 1: Justice)
"This is the end of the line for you!"
I gave that line a shout when I finally reached my target: a man of his 30's with a receding hairline, early for his age. He currently runs a business where it involved trading of items, from Collectibles to Cash Shop Items. However, those were actually knock offs of the real deals you get here in Gaia. As a member of the United Assassins Association, it's my job to get paid for eliminating my target assigned to me. Since I had a sense of justice, I only get to kill slimeballs, degenerates, corrupt lizards and anyone alike.
As I raised my katana and light saber, the poor bastatrd was crying in tears for his life while he wet himself. Yuck... There's nothing more I hate when a dying man pleads for his life with the smell of urine.
"Please man! You don't understand! I... I got a family! With kids en' wife..." My victim pleaded.
"That's not gonna work. You long left them behind. How dare you plead after what you have done? Say your prayers!"
"No... No... Noooooooooooo-" His last words were cut off as I sliced his pathetic head of his body. I'd normally just leave the body behind for my "associates" to clean up the scene but there was something in his neck that caught my attention: a set of beads which he must have gotten, preferably stolen, from a nearby shrine he frequently "visits." I think it would be nice to have this returned, hoping it's not a knockoff. With a few clicks on my headset, I contacted my operator for a job well done.
"Target neutralized. Send in the cleaners, Crystal."
"Roger that, Manny."
"Oh yes, I won't be back in a while. I'll be doing a return as well."
"Stole something?" Crystal inquired.
"The b*****d did. I want to make sure it's back where it belongs."
"Hurry up. The boss wants to debrief you immediately. He's in a rush. The usual."
"Always with the wife. This'll take a few minutes."
"You're the man. Do what you gotta do."
"Thanks, Crystal. Over."
I hurried up to the nearby shrine were the b*****d supposedly got the beads from. I was greeted by a old monk, who seemed unfazed by my appearance. He asked me on what brought me to the shrine. After showing the beads, which I had cleaned off the blood from the kill, the monk's eyes opened up with joy as he remarked to me:
"Young man, I am glad that you have finally returned our shrine's most treasured possession and it is a sign that you have released us from great oppression. The man who took it away from us was really an evil man, with greed all over his soul. By any chance justice was brought onto him?"
"Ye... Yes..." I replied nervously, hiding the fact that I had to kill the trader to bring "justice." "Well, I did see him and I... kind of... took care of him... uh... yes..."
"No need to hide it from me, young man. It was necessary that you had to shed blood in order to punish that man for his transgressions."
With his reply, I felt a jolt in my body as I wondered how was he able to know about it. But nevertheless, he continued on saying that the beads I hold is very sacred. He told that I can keep the beads since Buddha has "told" him I was on a path of righteousness.
"Alright, thank you. I'll make sure I protect this sacred treasure of yours."
I believed in Jesus Christ, but I had the knack for stuff from the East. I wore the beads around my neck. Wow... First time I've ever gotten something like this. I bid farewell to old monk as I left the shrine. Looking back, he was muttering. Maybe some sort of mantra or prayer. I can't tell it was for me or not.
Better get my butt to the boss. His wife beats the hell out of him if both of us get late.
"Crystal. On my way back."
