Starry Night



Prologue
Oklahoma June, 1987


I was living the normal life in the country just being with my family. My birthday was a month away on the 16th.
At that moment my Mother called to me, "Landrane, can you help me out with this?"
I called back to her, "I'm coming!" I was five the day this happened and after this day my life cahnged forever.
My Father came in the front door. I thought he was already done with the crops the he told us, "Pack your things we must leave before the hour is over."
I was puzzled, "Why? Is there somthing wrong?"
He said nothing but, "No time to explain. Quickly, you have to begin packing now!"
Even though we were extremely puzzled we did start packing any how. When we were finished I asked again, "why must we leave so quickly, right after we just moved here?"
He said nothing and that worried me. My Mother said, "Don't worry it must be another land raiders looking to get money."
I only wished she were right. Right then strange men wearing green coats knocked down our door and asked my Father, "Where is it? You know what is what I want."
I asked the strange green coat man, "What is it that you want, because we have no money or even food at the moment. We are working on growing food right now in thefeild but it won't be ready till tomorrow."
The man then snapped his fingers and one of the men behind him lit a flame and burned down our field. I noticed my Mother crying while looking at the flames. The man then said, "Give me what I want or your house is next."
My father then said, "No. I refuse to give the medallion to the likes of you!"
The man then snapped his fingers again and another one of the men mercilessly killed my brothers and sister. I tried my best not to cry. The man spoke again, "If you don't give me the medallion I'll kill your wife next."
I could see my Father sweating then I noticed my Mother began to run. I heard screaming and I knew that could only mean my Mother was dead. The man snapped his fingers once more and the house began to burn. At that moment my father revealed a hidden blade and killed the man. After that he killed the other man. The last man before dying broke one of the house pillars making some rubble fall on my Father. His last words to me were, "Landrane take this medallion and run, run and never turn around. I've loved you and your younger siblings so much Ijust wished that this never would have happened. Now Landrane, do as your Father says and never stop running."
I began crying, "No! Dad! Don't say things like that I could never leave you behind!" I started to cry more, "Dad..."
My Father tried to calm me down, "Landrane, in nearly six short years I've seen the brave, kind, and beautiful young man you've grown into. I want you to go east. You know which way that is right?" I nodded, "Good. Head in that direction and you'll find a friend of mine. He'll take care of you till you can set out on you're own. My son remember this poem and think of me when you say it
I've always wanted to touch
the stars in the sky.
I've always been fasinated
by the birds that go by.
If I had one wish,
tt would be to fly.
So that I can touch
the stars in the sky.
Now go my son, take the medallion and go, just go and rember to never look back and always remember that poem. Goodbye my son..."
I want to yell at him but I did like he asked and left.
