I am happy to report that I've got a "paid internship"... in the field I would like to be going into =). I'm helping out at a non-profit company that does a lot of health training videos, PSAs, and the like. I'm actually editing videos, or at least starting to... and I'm getting some money in return. I also may help out unpaid at UCTV (UCSD's TV station) with graphics.
I might enter a video in the Gaia film festival, but I really have no ideas beyond a documentary and I can't make that under 2 minutes and within the month.
Jake and I are working on some fish tanks, and we just got a gourami for the 10 gallon (he also has a 25 gallon.. both in his room). They're mostly his but I got to at least choose the gourami.
I was going to get a dwarf puffer fish (cute!) but they lied to us at the store and said it was a brackish fish (requires some salt in the water, not saltwater but a mixture)... Jake thought he had read that they can survive in freshwater but do better in brackish. I thought they were wrong......... and it turns out I was right, they are freshwater fish; they can survive in brackish but do better in fresh. Grr.
It's so sad to go into pet stores and see the fish the way they are in the tiny tanks. I also read some things about puppies and kittens at pet stores and it is just awful.
I am ashamed to admit that due to a lack of my favorite television shows producing more episodes during the summer, I have resorted to watching Big Brother UK. It's actually interesting to see people stuck in a house. Especially if you look at it as not being "fake" since they are recorded and are acting for the camera, but rather as an experiment to see what people do when they do know they are being recorded 24/7. Compared to the first few seasons of Big Brother US that I watched so many years ago, this actually seems somewhat less strained.
Pictures of fish later, maybe. =)
