Reserved, witty, and secretive; thirteen years old; .
Appearance
Thirteen year old Emerita or "Remmy" Locke has tanned skin and dark, dull brown eyes. Her light brown hair, usually pulled up in a hasty and unkempt pony tail, is flat and straight, extending to her elbows. The top layer of her hair becomes streaked with a muted golden blonde from frequent sunlight.
Remmy's eyes are framed by dark brows and long lashes, causing her otherwise ordinary eyes to easily catch the attention of those around her. Her face is a bit longer than her sister's rounded face, and ends at a slightly pointed nose and chin, blunted by a constant layer of dust. Others frequently remark that Remmy closely resembles her late mother, however Remmy believes she is much less attractive than her mother.
Clothing
Remmy's wardrobe consists of hand-me-down shirts and tank tops and patched brown trousers. She wears old brown boots with shoe laces made from knotted pieces of colorful yarn and fabric. Most of the scraps used to repair her clothing were taken from quilts, blankets, and old bits of clothing that belonged to the girls' mother. Remmy cleans and repairs all of the clothing in the house, but tends to keep her favorite scraps for her own clothing.
Personality
Though Remmy tends to act and express herself as a quiet tomboy, she is much more interested in lady-like things than she lets on. Sly and secretive, Remmy seems outwardly to be easy going and somewhat quiet. She tends to be very sarcastic, and when teased by her sister she lashes back, acting cold, serious, and at times grumpy. Remmy works to separate herself from her sister, though she does often work on the biplane with her, fetching materials or finding the proper tool. Young Remmy is remarkably mature for her age, and works hard to conceal this fact from her family. In her mind she is the foundation for her family, as she perceives her mother was before her. She also recognizes Cora's love for flying and has determined to pass full ownership of the biplane on to her sister.
Remmy dislikes when others point out the strong resemblance between her appearance and that of her mother. As she already feels the pressure to behave like and become more like her mother, she finds it unbearable to hear the fond descriptions of her mother - a woman she does not remember, yet uplifts as a sort of saint in her own mind. Remmy feels that she is both caught in her sister's shadow and unable to live up to her mother's glowing legacy. Due to her reserved nature, Remmy is often overlooked in favor of her sister Cora. As she ages, Remmy becomes more involved in her own schemes and increasingly secretive toward her father and sister, creating a rift in their relationships. She returns again and again to her desire to meet the expectations placed on her of becoming like her mother, and finds assistance and wisdom in unexpected places regarding this matter.
Biography
Remmy has no memories of her mother, but grew up listening to countless stories about the virtue of the lovely woman in the photograph next to her bed. Her father, a failed inventor, is often away from home for days or weeks in search of work, leaving Remmy and her sister to fend for themselves. Typically this implies that young Remmy cooks, cleans, and sees to other chores around the house. Spending her childhood as a tomboy, Remmy has no clear direction for her life, but enjoys spending time helping her sister work or flying in the biplane as Cora's navigator.
After Cora begins studying at the flight school, Remmy rides the old motorcycle for several miles out to the school after her morning chores are complete. There she sits with the instructor and heckles the students, snacking on various vending machine foods while tossing about sarcastic statements and teasing jabs. She also eventually opens up to the instructor, viewing him as an older brother or fatherly figure, and he encourages her to follow her own path. Unlike her sister and father, Remmy follows the movements of the foreign war very closely and is interested in the politics and policy entangling the country. Yet as she becomes more intersted in the war, and opens up more to the instructor, Remmy also becomes more reserved around her family, puzzling her father while her sister is oblivious to the fact.
Remmy is generally regarded by the young men at the flight school as a pest, and they groan and shuffle their feet when they see her coming. It is only around this group that she begins to break open her reservations and speak more freely, expressing her sharp, witty personality.

Tomboyish and loud; seventeen years old; dreams of becoming a pilot.
Appearance
Cora Locke is a nearly seventeen year old girl with dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. Her hair is usually worn up in a loose pony tail, and though she frequently had roughly cut bangs as a child, she now pulls back her hair with the exception of a few short, stray locks. When worn down, she has unruly wavy hair (not curly) that extends mid way down her back. She is lightly tanned from spending time outside, and her hair grows considerably lighter the more time she spends flying or outside.
Cora has a round nose and wide eyes, framed by pale brows and full lashes. She has a slender figure but is muscular for a girl her age, due to her rural lifestyle and mechanic work. Cora stands about 5'6" tall.
Clothing
Her outfit consists of cut off mechanic’s overalls which are usually blue or denim. The overall top is cut off around the waist and the ensemble held on by a thick brown belt wound through four belt loops. She sports oversized brown work boots and a faded red, white, or yellow tank top. She often has streaks of grease and oils on her arms and clothing. When she goes out flying, Cora sports her grandfather's classic flying helmet and goggles.
Cora's idea of "dressing up" is to wash her face and pull on a new pair of trousers. She is almost afraid to touch her mother’s delicate dresses, fearing she could never do justice to the lovely material. On some extreme and rare occasion she may be forced to wear one of her mother's gowns which resemble dresses from the 1930s, 1940s, or 1950s.
Personality
Cora is loud, boisterous, and a strongly established tomboy. She is a no-frills sort of girl; her dream is to attend a flight school and become a "true" pilot. She is fascinated with mechanics and frequently dissects devices to examine them, eyes wide and glowing with excitement. Though nearing marriageable age, Cora entertains no thoughts of men or family, and if asked she would admit that such matters had never had the chance to cross her mind. Cora becomes easily caught up in working on her biplane, and lashes out verbally when distracted from or frustrated with her work. Though she has always been close to her father and openly discusses her concerns with him, in her times of frustration or stress she will become distant from even her father.
With a tendency to be stubborn and singularly-minded, Cora often butts heads with her younger sister Remmy, with the pair exchanging teasing, sarcasm, and masked frustration. Whenever young Remmy attempts to point out Cora's lack of involvement in caring for the house and pursing ladylike endeavors – the latter of which Remmy herself is often absent from – Cora becomes increasingly resistant and aloof, diving into her mechanical work. In her attempts to obtain her goals, Cora tends to become overwhelmed and acts uncharacteristically reserved around her family. Rather than confront her concerns, problems, or fears, she works devotedly and perhaps somewhat selfishly toward her own goals. She prefers to avoid considering uncomfortable matters and generally ignores statements made by the local women, particularly those regarding cooking, sewing, and of course marriage.
Biography
Cora has few memories of her mother, who died when the girls were still quite young. Her father, a failed inventor, frequently drives to a nearby city for work, leaving the girls alone for days or weeks at a time. When she was eleven years old, the girls' grandfather died, leaving his "relic" biplane to the pair. Though the machine was in disrepair at the time, Cora devoted herself to repairing the machine, working alongside her grandfather, and later her sister Remmy. Cora and her grandfather converted the barn near her father's old farmhouse into a hangar, storing the flying craft inside. Without realizing her growing passion for flying, Cora developed her dream of becoming a recognized pilot while repairing and flying the biplane whenever possible.
As the girls age and their father spends more time away from home, Cora becomes even more devoted to her passion and neglects to assist her sister in cooking, cleaning, or tending to chores around the house. She often rides her old motorcycle into town on errands, usually returning with parts for the plane. Though the girls appear outwardly to be growing apart as they grow older, they still enjoy climbing trees, watching clouds in the fields behind the converted barn, and flying together.
Shortly before her seventeenth birthday, Cora receives notice from the area's flight school informing her that she has been accepted into the flight program. This is astonishing to the entire family, as women are rarely allowed into the country's flight schools, and this particular school has never taught a woman. A few months after her birthday she embarks for the school for the first time, flying her rickety biplane to a small compound several miles away. There she meets numerous interesting characters as she learns the discipline required to be a real pilot. She discovers in her time at the school that her late grandfather was deeply involved with the flight school, and perhaps in her ability to study there as well.

Tobias Maessen aka "Marino Landvik" |
|
|

|
|
|
Fiery but aloof in personal life; mid-twenties; traveling merchant; carries prized possession in pack.Reference
Appearance
Tobias is in his early twenties, and stands around 5'10" tall. He is a "carrot top" redhead with pale eyebrows and lashes to match. His hair is between shoulder and elbow length and pulled back in a pony tail. Due to his traveling and the fact that he rarely brushes his hair, it has a "spiky" look in the front with quite a few "flyaway" strands of hair.
Tobias also has pale blue eyes and light skin with a slight tan due to his frequent traveling -- however he does burn easily. He is somewhat muscular, though due to his three-quarter or full length sleeves it is often difficult to tell. He is fit enough to withstand lengthy foot travel as well as frequent voyages across the sea, where he is at times forced to work as a sailor when a vessel is short-handed.
He is not ruggedly or boyishly handsome, but his pale blue eyes and flyaway hair have a charm to them which cause Tobias to have face that many would describe as "nice" sort of face, one that women enjoy looking at. His face has a slight roundness to it though his nose has a small point.
Clothing
Tobias wears dark brown trousers which are barely visible underneath his Asian-inspired top. The top is loose and open just enough to see that he does not wear a shirt underneath it. Colors include tan, brown, green, grey, light blue, and navy. It also has a sash of a dark color that knots in the front around the waist. He wears sturdy brown sandals.
He also wears a very long chain around his neck on which a gem ring is found. Tobias travels with a dark canvas pack, usually found either on his back or over an arm, sometimes it may be slung across his chest. His most prized possessions and purchases are found here.
Personality
Tobias has a bit of a fiery personality, and is know for being rather rash. He is, however, a brilliant merchant, and when he travels abroad women flock to his stands because they have never seen anyone with his color of hair and eyes. He is easily able to charm women while trying to sell his merchandise, but he has very little experience with women or relationships in his personal life.
Despite spending time with others while traveling or chatting up potential customers, Tobias is not very personable and generally remains rather aloof. He generally prefers to travel alone. When put into an uncomfortable situation, Tobias has the potential to be rebellious. He also greatly enjoys travel, and spends as much time away from the kingdom as he possibly can, especially in foreign lands across the sea. He despises his common-sounding name, and thus adopts the foreign name "Marino Landvik".
Biography
From a young age, Tobias set himself apart from his family of farmers, even to the point of running away at the age of fourteen to voyage to foreign lands. It was here that he developed a taste for tropical fruits and Asian attire. During his early teen years he also adopted the name "Marino Landvik", and uses the name exclusively. Very few know his true name, except a few older merchants who knew him as a child or teenager.
Tobias has made several journeys across the sea to visit various lands and kingdoms, always returning with exciting stories and beautiful merchandise. At times he serves as a sailor to pay his fare or when the vessel is short-handed. He also frequently travels on foot between smaller villages, however he dislikes this sort of travel as well as the "common" clientele he serves in his homeland.
He meets Chesa in a small village and reluctantly allows her to join the group of merchants he is currently traveling with. He does, however, find the girl to be kind and friendly, and though he outwardly acts rather ambiguously toward her, he does enjoy her company.
Due to his frequent travels and encounters with the wealthy and royal, Tobias knows a good number of military officers who allow his safe and swift passage and access to the best roads in the kingdom. He uses these men as his informants on the chess-like movements of kings and their armies, using this information to his advantage as a merchant. Much of what he hears does trouble him, however, particularly when he sees how strange and naive Chesa is. The rest of the merchants carry on rather nonchalantly, leaving him to his solitary plotting.

Quiet and unsure; nineteen years old; sharp tongue; "rustic" fantasy style clothing.Reference | Reference
Appearance Chesa is approximately 19 years old. She is petite, standing at about 5'5" or a bit shorter. She is not very physically strong, nor is she particularly well endowed. She has small, delicate facial features and large eyes.
Chesa is rather pale, and has been deemed sickly for a good portion of her life. She has a splash of fresh freckles across her cheeks and nose. She has full, thick dark (natural) red hair with penetrating pale green eyes.
She is not beautiful, nor is she homely. She would be considered "striking" -- her eyes and pale skin seem to pop out from under her thick hair which frequently hides most of her face. Her hair extends down her back, generally parted in the middle (if parted at all), and is very straight.
Clothing Her clothing may be varied to include rustic fantasy, peasant, or maid dresses, perhaps with a slight fanciful air.
Personality She is quiet and generally lacking confidence, however she finds courage in her sharp tongue which frequently slips out. Though she is embarrassed by these slips-ups, she also finds them empowering. She believes she may be an exiled princess, though this claim is unfounded. She has few memories of her parents, and was raised for several years by a governess who has recently passed away. Her belief that she is royalty feeds into her belief that one must visibly possess some reason to be cared for. As she believes she has no skill or beauty and because her governess was not a woman to display outward signs of affection, Chesa is determined to find some quality in herself or physical skill that proves she is worthy of love and friendship.
Biography
After her parents' untimely deaths, Chesa was whisked from her home by her governess, with whom she lived from the time she was a child until the woman's death. In truth, her mother served as a maid to the queen, which is perhaps where Chesa formed her fanciful ideas of being royalty. As she was too young to recall her father's name and her governess did not use the girl's surname, she goes by the name "Stroud" to avert the suspicion of having no last name. Now nineteen, Chesa is a sheltered and naive girl, unsure of how a common woman lives, and this becomes apparent as she begins to travel and search for a way to earn a living.
Since the time of her parents' deaths and the assassination of the reigning king, the kingdom has been in turmoil. Despite her sheltered life under the watchful eye of her governess, Chesa, now venturing into the world, will soon discover the terrifying and painful reality of the battle brewing across her homeland and neighboring lands. After being unable to find work in local villages, Chesa is invited to join a band of rambunctious traveling merchants. Here she shares in their nomadic lifestyle, colorful tales, and studies their trade. In this group she meets a mysterious young merchant named Marino, who tells her of his adventures across the sea. Chesa attaches herself to the young man and assists him with his trade in any ways she is able. She is amazed at his ability to appear so confident and calculating as a merchant, while remaining aloof in his personal life.

Appearance
Abigail is 26 years old. She stands approximately 5'8", and has a healthy, somewhat curvy, figure. Her medium to dark brown hair falls in large, loose curls around her tanned face, curving under her chin. Her hair falls between shoulder and elbow length and is generally parted just to one side.
Abigail has long, dark eye lashes beneath thick but groomed dark brown brows. Her dark teal-blue eyes have a mischievous glint and are commonly called her best feature.
When she feels the need to be, Abigail can look quite stunning, as she is a lovely girl. She enjoys using makeup at times even though she generally does not need to, and she greatly enjoys turning heads. She takes immense pride in her hair, eyes, and figure, despite not being "model material" until her father's money comes into play.
Clothing
Abigail has a passion for fancy clothing, and will wear anything she deems beautiful, particularly "vintage" or antique designs. She detests black and white clothing as well as bright, ostentatious colors. On a rare occasion, she will display a limit amount of skin, however her clothing is generally very tasteful. As a wealthy young woman, she has access to the best designers and most luxurious fabrics. Abigail especially loves Victorian, Edwardian, or other era-inspired designs.
See below for outfit ideas.

Personality
Even as a young girl, Abigail was snobbish and sarcastic, constantly spoiled by her parents. However, she also has quite a rebellious streak, in addition to using the money and gifts her parents shower her with. Constantly sheltered by her mother, Abigail has quite the adventuring spirit and longs to travel the world. She is very close to her father and frequently writes to him when she is away; Abigail views her father as the one person who truly cares about her. She does worry about him when she is away and so she does not often stay away from home too long.
During her teenage and young adult years Abigail has become more ambivalent toward those around her, as though bored with her peers. She dislikes her mother's constant attempts to marry her, and fears that one day she will be "stuck" with one of these suitors, in which case she should live her life to the fullest before this occurs. She does have a very passionate personality, and latches on to ideas or people with furor, set to see the situation to the end and ensure the outcome she desires. Abigail becomes very upset when her schemes or visions do not materialize in the matter in which she desires them to, and disengages herself from the person or situation immediately.
After meeting the pirate captain Talon she feels she has at last found a man who can match her wit. She is unable to see his internal frustration and bitterness, thinking it to be only anger that she has "bested" him in some way or caused him to feel some affection toward her. She secretly admires Talon and his lifestyle and for reasons even unknown to her, she devotes herself to assisting the pirate in breaking his curse. Her behavior becomes perhaps more wicked and cold during her time aboard the ship as she vies for attention, however each verbal battle with the captain leaves her feeling drained and alone.
Biography
Abigail was born to wealth parents -- an overbearing mother and a father who treats her like a princess and spoils her. As a child, her mother would dress her in frilly, feminine dresses which would always return dirty and torn, much to her mother's dismay. Her perfect curls would be matted and her hair ribbons gone. While her mother is now always trying to find her a rich, handsome man to marry, her father provides excuses for her to ignore her mother's schemes.
Being the spoiled and independent woman she is, she frequently travels to get away from her mother. On one cruise, an untimely storm and her stubborn nature cause her to fall overboard. She is rescued by Talon, and after he refuses to stop at a port to send her home she learns of his obsession with the curse placed on himself and his crew.
She is very mischievous and at times manipulative aboard the ship. Abigail will frequently play her comrades against one another, leading to frequent disputes as well as verbal matches between herself and the captain. She is also very sarcastic, and frequently makes flippant remarks or jokes that the others do not seem to understand. Despite her cold and snobbish appearance and her apparent dislike for the pirate captain who saved her, she is determined to help him.
Abigail frequently acts as though she believes everyone should respect and serve, leading to even more disputes with the captain and his crew. While searching for clues, however, she spends more sleepless nights, goes with less food, and ponders each possibility far longer than even the captain himself. Even she is puzzled by her fascination with the pirate and his curse.
Eventually Abigail is led to believe that a London professor named Nicholas Byington, or "Nick" as she calls him, may be able to help in the quest and travels to speak with him. It is during this time that she meets Emma in a coffee shop, spilled a cup of tea on the young woman before scurrying out of the shop in a rather irritable mood. She has little luck in convincing Byington to join her with the veiled description and even outright lies she tells about the "job", and eventually plots to kidnap or blackmail him into joining.

Reference | ReferenceCold and lacking charm; pirate; thirty-three years old; on a quest to break a curse.
Appearance
Talon appears to be around 33 years old, however his exact age is unknown. He stands around 6'1" to 6'2" tall, and is well-built with toned muscles, appropriate to sea work and battle. He has tanned skin with no tattoos. He does have three scars across his chest of various lengths, which appear to be from a sword.
Talon's hair is a dark brown, and generally looks wind-blown. It is tapered at the nape of the neck and appears to have been long at time point before being cut rather roughly. He is clean shaven and does not wear a beard or mustache. He has dark, murky blue eyes which almost always sport a very serious look beneath dark brows.
He is quite handsome with a rugged and manly appearance, however he very rarely smiles or shows any emotion other than anger, frustration, or distaste.

His boots are generally worn over the trousers, and are mid-calf in height with a belt running across the top of the ankle and buckling at one side.
Talon usually carries a scabbard bearing his cutlass, as well as a pistol in his dark brown belt. His pistol as the appearance of an antique pirate weapon. The scabbard is plain brown and gold, however the cutlass hilt is decorated with a sea serpent design. The belt buckle is of a worn gold, bearing a mildly ornate shell pattern in each of the rectangle's corners. He does not own or wear a hat.
See below for outfit guide.
boots - only one buckle shirt - no collar at the neck; no cuffs at the sleeves belt - different ornamentation; one small shell in each corner pistol - a simple weapon; few to no embellishments cutlass - a simple brown and gold sheath; sea serpent design on the sword handle/hilt
Personality
Though a bright and energetic child, Talon always had a love for the sea. His cool and collected attitude served him well throughout his early schooling with tutors, as well as during his time as a navy seaman. Though not ambitious, he is driven by curiosity and a desire to explore the world, fueled by his father's stories. This passion is later channeled toward his obsessive search for a cure to break the curse placed on him.
After spending so many years under the weight of the curse, Talon becomes very bitter, angry, and short-tempered. His frustration is often taken out on his men in explosive bursts of yelling and unnecessary orders and restrictions. After Abigail is rescued and staying aboard the ship, however, his personality is altered once again.
Unfortunately, the young woman does not bring out any good qualities in Talon, who becomes moody and easily irritated. Though his anger no longer presents in bursts of violence, he frequently locks himself away in his room or bickers with her. He very slowly grows to tolerate having the woman aboard his ship and he becomes better able to control his moods and show a semblance of compassion toward those around him.
Biography
Talon was born in the mid 1700s in Spain, to a Spanish mother and English father. His father, a retired navy man, began work with a shipping firm who sent him to Spain, where he met and married Talon's mother. Talon was very close with his father, especially after his mother's passing, just a few years before they moved to England. Here he followed in his father's footsteps and joined the navy. As a fast learner and a remarkably talented leader, Talon quickly moved up the ranks, much to the chagrin and frustration of his wealthy commanding officers.
Though little is known about his past, at some point in his early twenties, Talon left the navy and joined a pirate crew. The influences on this decision are unknown, as well as the craft he sailed on, though the pirates did not oppose the navy in any way. By his late twenties, he had his own vessel, "The Silver Tempest." Shortly after forming his own crew, a man placed a curse on Talon and those aboard his vessel, granting them immortality.
Though shrouded in mystery, the curse remains the object of Talon’s interests and attention. Several hundred years have passed since the curse, however he still sails with his crew in hopes of finding a spell or serum to break this curse, never telling his crew how or why a curse was placed on them. He has, however, by this time become a rather bitter man, quick to anger and having very little consideration for anything but achieving his goals. His crew quickly becomes disenchanted with their leader, and are at constant dis-ease around his altered personality. All of them have suffered a similar fate - forced to watch their lives and the ones they loved grow old, forget about them, and die, while they remained unchanged but imprisoned by their captain aboard their vessel. Talon forbids his men from leaving the ship even when he is on land, fearing what they might do if they were to encounter people in their current state. Even he avoids people as well as he is able while on land.
While still searching for any clues to a cure to his curse, his ship happens upon a young woman floating in the sea, who appears to be a victim of a storm which destroyed the craft she was sailing on. He rescues the woman, which he soon regrets as he finds he can not rid himself of her. Though the two are constantly bickering and seem to have a distinct distaste for one another, the girl is determined to help the captain break his curse.
He becomes easily frustrated with the young woman, and frequently locks himself in his cabin to avoid her. Perhaps what frustrates him most is her desire to help him on what he considers a solitary quest, particularly while not knowing why she wishes to help. He is not charming, kind, or gentle, but understands the woman's fiery personality and lust for adventure -- much like his own attitude before the curse.
