Before I had this tonsillectomy, I couldn't even have spelled the word. Now, it's come in constant use as I've researched it on the internet and found that my symptoms and complaints are completely normal... Plus, I can't sleep anyways. D= SO, little by little, since Wendy will ride my a** for being on the net, I'll place my recollections of the days here before it's completely forgotten.. This entry most likely will be the longest, along with entries of later days. So, please enjoy... >< I guess.
Day 0 - Day of Operation
I woke up sometime between 5-5:30 a.m. I took a brief shower and brushed my teeth. I made sure not to swallow any water or toothpaste. I grabbed a pillow, blanky, and a gameboy JIC I had to wait a long time. We dropped off the kids, and we went to Havesue. It was still dark out and I laid there half-asleep in the back. On the way, wendy and javier got some snacks. I didn't care since I didn't like slim-jims anyway. We got to the clinic 10 minutes early. Since I already had the paperwork filled out, they gave me my bracelet and had me confirm all of the information. W/J told me they would go to Walmart to get stuff, but would be back after I went w/ a nurse to go change. I went into the bathroom, changed and got to wear my underwear, plus the 'highly fasionable' gown + tan socks. My hair was put into a hairnet. The nurse led me to a chair where she took some blood and my urine sample to make sure I wasn't pregnant. >_> Like I could get pregnant. She then stuck in a thingie where she poked a hole in me for the IV and taped it on there until the time came. She also checked my heartbeat and blood pressure. She asked if I wanted my "mom and dad" to come wait with me, but they had already left. I figured that was okay since they would've just been mean to me anyways like they have been. (Trying to scare me, ecetera). I sat there for about 45 minutes and the Anasteasilogist came by and asked questions. He looked scary, but he was really nice. Later, Dr. Cunning, my doctor came by and made sure I was okay and told me someone would come by to take me to the operating room. A man came, and led me to the room as I held onto his arm. He was nice, and I kind of felt like a small, frightened child. I tried to act nonchalant, but everyone could tell I was nervous.
The operating room was huge and bright. There were sinks and machinery everywhere. At first it was just me and him, so it wa a little odd as 'drama' scenerios raced through my mind. He led me to the bed and told me that things would get busy very fast and there'd be a lot of action as they prepped for the surgery. He helped me up the little stairs onto the bed. He then plugged me into the blood pressure and heart monitor, and hooked me up to other machinery I didn't recognize. He also put in my IV. 3 other people entered the room and started doing other things. The man then 'wrapped' me up like a burrito, covered me with a warm blanked and strapped me to the bed with a large, black belt. Afterthat, I could only look up at the bright light hanging above me. A moment later, a mask was placed over my face, and someone else told me to take 5 deep breathes. I did, but I still hadn't fallen asleep. The back of my mind did feel fuzzy though. I told myself a little prayer, and thoguht of my friends and family, especially hime-san and desirea, as I had promised even though it was a week after her birthday. As soon as I closed my eyes and took one last, deep breath the bright light faded away...
When I woke up, I half expected to have a breathing tube down my throat, but I only had a oxygen mask on to my relief. I heard a faint beeping on my right, and my head was really foggy. I heard a woman's voice, but I didn't know what she said. I tried to look at the clock, but my eyes couldn't adjust, and I was also enjoying the lovely oxygen I was receiving. The entire time I was fighting to remain concious because I wanted to go home and not be a inconveinence to W/J who were waiting for me. After some time, she removed the mask and I felt a little startled. It was a little hard to breath, and my throat did feel a little sore, but it wasn't anything. It was about 9 'o clock when I woke up, and my surgery began at about 7:55. I blinked for a while, and she asked me how I felt and if the morphine was working. I didn't know because I woke up with it. Slowly but surely, I became more and more awake. She asked me if I wanted my parents. I nodded yes. When Wendy walked in, I wanted to cry because I was happy to see someone. I thought someone would've been there with me besides the nurse. She had a flower with her when she came in. She asked me how I was feeling and I gave her a thumbs up. The nurse then gave me ice chips and some apple juice. Then I was wheeled over to watch some TV. However, Wendy took control of the remote since I had no preference. I had deja vu during this time.. I had seen this in a dream... We asked to see my tonsils. My sister walked out to get Javier to see them too. While she was out, a nurse brought them to me. They looked pretty big and ugly. They were red/black/purple. Wendy was bummed. Javier was still gone because he went to get my prescriptions. An hour later, I was released. I dressed myself and I even walked out with the nurse. I still felt okay. We then went to BK and I got a vanilla milkshake, even though chocolate is my favorite. I just felt like vanilla. I was very dizzy and disoriented, and the wrap around my hand felt like the blood was being cut off to stop the bleeding where the IV was. [There's still a scab there] Water tasted disgusting because of the strange metalic taste in my mouth. Javier's driving on the way home also made me naucious.
When I got home, I laid down in bed and the pain strarted to reer its ugly head. I could definately tell if the morphine had worked then. While I was resting the clinic, the doctor did come by and so did some other people who were in on the operation. They told me that they were huge, some of the biggest they've seen. I could've told them that! He also told me the pain would get worse... I believe him now. -sweatdrop- Anyway, instead of falling to sleep like I've been told I would do, I tried to call hime-san. I think.. I tried to tell her to come over and check the answer machine, but... when you're on the phone it's hard. THe girls were really sweet when the came home, and Niota bought me a whiteboard/markers so I could communicate. I had popsicles/icecream/and lots of juice that day. I took the pain medicine every 4 hours and some antibiotics three times a day. I scarely left the bed and fell asleep around 1 and woke up at 4. It was hard to sleep that night...
