Now that I've got you're attention, lets get to the REAL topic for today. Public Speaking. Ironic, isn't it? Speaking about Public Speaking in a Public Speaking Competition?
So Public Speaking, as the phrase itself implies, its speaking to the public. Now 'public' is in no way limited to big, huge crowds like a full auditorium. It could also be a group of friends.
So, now that I've defined Public Speaking to be what it is, it doesn't sound so intimidating now, does it? So now, why are we so afraid of it?
We're so afraid that we tend to- uhh...what was I supposed to say again? Oh yeah! We tend to forget our words! Furthermore, we may get so nervous weendupspeakingsofastyoucan'tevenmakeoutwhatwe're saying and perhaps stt-stt-stuu-stutte-stutter! Hopefully we don't forget our words and in am attempt to save our speech we end up...uh..Did you know that I'm from 2e7? This is so scary! uhh...start ranting?
That goodness I didn't- hahahahahahahahaha!- burst into laughter! That would be a great tragedy, right? Oh sorry. Have you lost me?
So, public speaking is so to say, an art or perhaps, a skill. It CAN be developed and is essentially, a useful skill in Secondary school, as seen in the example of my being here, and also in the future working world.
But why? Let me demonstrate. Would you, an employer employ someone who comes into the interview who shivers as he speaks, the sound from his mouth barely a whisper? Or would you employ someone who stood tall, spoke loudly and confidently?Lets leave you to silently contemplate whilst I continue.
