Redemption part 6
“What if he’s dead.” Chan turned around to face Ron and looked him straight in the eyes with a sympathetic reasoning. She then pulled him to her and hugged him with care. Her hug was warming and reassuring to Ron. Understanding. Sympathetic. He hadn’t felt that for a long time. It had felt like an eternity since he had known that feeling of true reassurance and sympathy. He didn’t want the embrace to end. “Trent might get hurt, but I know for sure he won’t die. Trent won’t ever die on us. Especially not on Joyce… You don’t have to worry,” Chan told him, then suddenly the embrace ended and Chan pulled away from him. She wiped a tear from Ron’s face gently with her thumb and smiled, “There now, feel better?” he nodded and managed a “Mmhmm” and a sniff. “That’s my boy!” Chan said as she grinned and patted him hard on the back, causing him to cough weakly from the force. She laughed then turned around and went back to her packing leaving Ron standing there by himself. He stood still as he watched her trot off with a bounce in her step. He could still feel her soft thumb on his cheek. It was warm. Loving. Like a memory. Like things used to be before. Before with everyone. Before the secret was revealed to their minds. Before their lives were ruined. He turned his head down and clenched his fist tightly then taking in a deep breath he called to Chan, “Hey Chan! Wait up! What should we pack?”

Shade walked up to Joyce. She too was busy getting things together and packing. He asked her what they were doing. “Oh, we’re going to go find Trent.” Sean was silent for a few seconds, “…uhh… we know where he is?” Joyce didn’t hear him and asked him where Liz went off to. “She went for a quick fly around the castle I think”
“Okay, as long as she’s back soon,” she smiled. Sean was silent for a few more seconds. He found everyday that passed it was harder to talk to Joyce face to face. After trying to find something to say he finally said, “so what’s up with Chan? I don’t think I’ve ever seen her like this. As crazy as she already is.”
“Well be glad to know she’s not going anymore insane”
“It kind of seemed like it for a few minutes there.”
“Well she knows where Trent is and that’s all that matters now.”
“Yeah… let’s just hope that she’s right…” He looked away from Joyce and down to the ground.

The five Fallens flew part way until they were past the forest and into a great canyon. They decided to walk from there for people who might be wandering the canyon and they did not want to be spotted. They drew their wings into their backs and carried their heavy packs on them. Chan and Ron were in the back as they usually were to keep an eye out for followers. They walked on the red, dusty, dry ground with light steps. Ron and Chan were silent but would laugh every once in a while about a joke or snickered from something they saw which they thought was amusing. They stopped for a moment and saw a single flower growing on the chalky ground. “Oh, what a pretty flower!!” Chan said with utter glee to see something with color. It was of various colors: the petals were outlined with a yellow trim as the middle of the petal was deep purple and the inside edges were a bright fuchsia. It had little bobbled things that were like antennae coming out from the middle. They stood there staring at it in awe of it’s beauty and decided to be on their way as to not get left behind. Ron paused for a second and looked back at the flower. Chan did not notice that Ron was left behind until she caught up to their former spot in lookout. She started to panic cutely and thought that maybe he would have been eaten by evil dirt monsters and at her highest point of cute worry, the beautiful flower appeared in front of her face. It was being held by a familiar hand, “I got this for you.” She looked up and saw Ron with his blonde hair shining in the bright sunlight against the blue, nearly cloudless sky. He smiled at her and she blushed in a panic, “O-oh thank you! Umm… but you didn’t have to!” Ron smiled again and said, “Nonsense, you deserve it.” She blushed a little more and took the delicate flower, “Thank you,” She put the flower in her hair to keep it safe and gave Ron a thankful smile that made him smile back in return. They continued their lookout in the back of the group about fifty yards behind them at all times. Ron noticed Chan’s flower was starting to fall out of her hair but it didn’t seem like she took to the realization yet. “Oh here Chan, let me fix that for you.” He ran in front of her and fixed the flower in her hair, readjusting it so that it wouldn’t fall out too easily anymore. “Oh, thank you, Ron,” She said. They walked for a little while and then Chan startled to giggle a bit. “Haha, what is it Chan? Think of something funny?” Ron said as he laughed with her. She stopped giggling and looked at him with a bright smile across her face, “You really remind me of Eli. You’re so sweet,” Ron’s face turned to shock then he blushed as Chan carried on, “He used to give me flowers all the time and put them in my hair. I remember we used to share a lot of secrets when we did these kinds of things.” He just continued to stare at her with a bright blush on his face and blinked every few seconds without noticing, “You’re such a great friend, Ron. I’m glad you’re here,” She said as she smiled at him with her vibrant flower flowing in her long dark brown hair. “O-oh, well, you know! Eheh! What are friends for?? Haha!” Ron stuttered out in adorable embarrassment as he scratched his panicked head. The group was starting to get tired and Chan was hungry to her stomach, “How about we take a break for a bit guys??” Ron assisted her suggestion with “Yeah, we’ve been at it for hours now. I think a break will do us some good.” The rest of the group agreed and they stopped in a small clearing in between small cliffs in which they could not see over. They took out their food and started eating. Liz paused. She looked around and everyone asked her what was wrong. Liz’s face was facing down and she smiled, “We’re being watched…”
