The Trial of Soren

Long ago there was a war between demons and angels, humans were trapped in the middle of it all. Soren, a fire demon, was one of the great demon generals with one of the greatest armies. Soren was born human but died at a young age of eight, along with his twin brother, mother, and father, in a car accident. Soren and his father became demons, Soren doesn’t know it but his brother and his mother became angels. Soren learned to abandon all of his human emotions which allowed him to kill with no remorse. Him and his army, the most loyal army in the world, killed millions during the war, both human and angel. Soren's army also was responsible for the capture and execution of forty traitors, in two nights. The great Soren was to go down in demon history for being the greatest general ever. Until one day Soren came across a strange village, in the village he met a strange young girl. He was confronted by the girl as she begged for her mother’s life, then he saw her eyes. Her eyes were two different shades of blue, Soren was hypnotized. The sight caused Soren to go crazy, he ordered his army to end the war by destroying anything and anyone participating in the war. Soren ended the war but he would soon go to trial for his treachery.
Soren’s father was one of the great elders that would have to sentence him. Cremona, the headmistress of the demon world, and Baron, the king of the demon world joined in the sentencing. “As headmistress I rule that your punishment will be handed down from your father,” said Cremona, “Garcon, you have to choose a punishment either death, or for Soren to be banned from the demon world forever.” Garcon looked at his son, “I choose for him to be banned from the demon world. That way it wouldn’t hurt so much.” Soren accepted his punishment, but Baron wasn’t pleased. “I am not pleased with this decision,” he said as he rose from his seat, “In one year’s time there will be a bounty on your head. You will be hunted and killed.” Soren was sent to the living world, once there he saw a bulletin for a new school needing teachers. “Planning on going back to school,” said a voice from behind. The voice was Soren’s second in command, Portland. “Portland, been a while,” said Soren, “I hope you’ve done the preparations for our plan.” “Yes sir,” said Portland, “Your father has taken control of your army and we are ready and awaiting your signal.” “Perfect,” replied Soren, “I think I’ll use this school for cover. It claims to have a barrier around it to keep out enemies.” “You don’t think it’ll be able to stop the seven Magi’s when they find out what you’ve done,” said Portland. “Don’t worry about it,” said Soren, “I’ll deal with them when the time comes. You just make sure that you do your part and my father doesn’t do anything crazy.” Portland nodded and returned to the demon world. Soren took another look at the bulletin and decided to head toward the school.
Soren arrive at the school after submitting his application to teach Physical Education. He figured if he could command and train a rowdy army of homicidal demons, a few kids wouldn’t be too hard to handle. The school was a huge castle floating on a little piece of land. A moat surrounded the castle, a vast field then thick forest surrounded that. Soren walked into the school which was silent and had an uncanny feeling to it. He continued to walk until he heard someone in the Dining Hall. He opens the door and sees a young lady putting the final touches on the decorations for the grand opening of her school. “Excuse me miss,” says Soren as he proceeds to walk in, “you wouldn’t happen to be Miss Akemi would you?” She turns around to see who was talking to her, and says “Oh! Yes I am. May I ask who you are?” “Pardon me,” said Soren, “The name is Soren. I applied for the teaching position.” “And what position was that again?” said Akemi. “The P.E. teacher,” replied Soren, “It’s very nice in here do you need any help?” “No,” said Akemi with a smile, “I just finished decorating the Dining Hall and now I’m waiting for more students to come.” Soren looked around and said, “Well it was very nice to meet you ma’am. I’ll just explore the rest of the school for the time being. Oh, and by the way, where is the gym. I didn’t exactly get a map.” Akemi giggled and replied, “It’s down the hall, go left till you come to some stairs, then go up three flights, then left again, then right and you come to your new office.” Soren looked at her puzzled, “Okay, I’ll find it eventually.” He left the Dining Hall and spotted another beautiful woman and suddenly forgot where he was going. Akemi laughed, “What a silly man, I’m sure the students will love him.” She said.
The next morning, Akemi and another teacher were having coffee in the teachers lounge. As Akemi was pouring the other teacher a cup of coffee Soren suddenly appears in a small burst of flames. “Hello ladies, may I join you?” said Soren. “Sure why not.” said the other teacher. “Coffee?” said Soren, “Hmm, got any tea?” “Soren, nice to see you again,” said Akemi, “yes we have some tea sit down I’ll get it for you.” Akemi goes to get the tea for Soren. As she does the other teacher turns to him, “Hello, I’m Shadow.” she said, with a slight smile revealing her cat-like fangs. Her cat ears twitched and her cat tail swayed behind her. “Hello Shadow.” said Soren with, a smile showing his bat-like fangs. “And what can I call you?” said Shadow looking at his fang, “I’m Guessing you’re a fellow teacher here.” Akemi brought Soren his tea and he began to drink it. “I apologize,” said Soren, “my name is Soren. So, what do you teach?” “I teach Ancient Language and art,” replied Shadow, “my two favorite things.” She waved her hear out of her face revealing that she had two different colored eyes, one ocean blue and the other leaf green. “Wow, you have beautiful eyes.” said Soren nearly dropping his cup of tea, “I mean Ancient Language and Art nice. I teach, umm, uh, Physical Education.” Akemi pops back into the room giggling at the scene. She starts to drink her already cold coffee not caring. Shadow, blushing a little, replied, “Really, well it was nice to meet you Soren.” Akemi coughed loudly to get some attention and said, “It looks like my two teachers have met.” They all spend a quiet day talking and getting to know each other. They also met Eric, Morgan, and Nephrite, three other fellow teachers.
The next day Soren was awaken by a morning storm which seemed to last all day. Soren hates the rain, no one knows why not even Soren. Soren was slow and very remote most of the day. That night it was still raining, Soren was in his office, half asleep. “I hate the rain. It always puts me in a bad mood.” Soren was looking at his lesson plan for the next day, “This is far different from teaching just demons, due to the many other races and species to deal with. I guess I could take the student horseback riding on demon horses or swimming in the Bermuda Triangle, or maybe surf lava down a volcano. Wait, I almost forgot about the humans. Horseback riding it is, now to find some demon horses.” “Hello Soren,” said Akemi says as she pops into Soren’s office, “There are some horses in the forest but I should come with you since you’re unfamiliar with the area.” Soren falls out of his chair in surprise, “How did you, never mind. Anyway I don’t think the students would enjoy horseback riding,” Soren said with a slight smile as he looked at Akemi was in a good mood, “At least someone is in a good mood.” Akemi helps Soren up off the floor, “Do what? Any who, it would have been fun to ride demon horses but then again I guess your right. Oh, and by the way, I’m always happy, especially when it rains.” Soren picks up a strange calendar and stares at it with a concerned look. “Are you alright Soren?” asked Akemi. “Oh yeah I’m fine,” replied Soren, “I just remembered that it’s the night of the ‘Red Moon’ also known as the ‘Demon’s Sun’. Some of my friends will be in town tonight, as well as some old enemies that think I’m dead. Mostly I fear of phantoms.” Soren looked out the window still a bit concerned, “Normally I wouldn’t mind a few phantoms,” he said, “but on the night of the ‘Red Moon’ all demons loose their powers for one night.” “Oh, hmm, that’s a bit of a problem,” said Akemi as she sit’s in a chair and thinks, “that means I’m going to be render human for the night.” “You say your barrier around the school is able to keep out anything that doesn’t belong right?” said Soren as he watched the clouds part revealing the ‘Red Moon’. “Yes,” replied Akemi, “Why do you ask?” Soren signaled for Akemi to come to the window and replied, “Because we’re surrounded by phantoms.” Akemi looks out the window and notices that one of them seemed to be holding a young woman from a neighboring town hostage. “Ignore it,” said Soren, “It’s a trap to lure someone out.” An hour went by the ‘Red Moon’ high in the sky and sounds of an innocent human woman screaming and various others from a neighboring town in pain. Suddenly the cloud covered the moon, as long as the moon is not shining on a demon he or she may use their demon power. Soren was fed up with their mind games, he also noticed that unlike himself Akemi wasn’t a used to such torture. Soren was furious, he called for his flying demon horse, Cain, and decided to give the phantoms what they wanted. Akemi watched as the angered Soren went into the woods. He arrived in the wood to find that the phantoms have vanished. Because phantoms are like ghost so there was no trail to follow. There was no sign of the woman that was screaming. Soren headed back to the school very puzzled, “Why make all that fuss and just leave?” The next morning Soren asked other teachers if they noticed what happened the night before. None of the other teachers or students noticed anything out of the ordinary. Only Soren and Akemi witnessed the phantoms that surrounded the school that night. To Be Continued...
