The Blue Grotto 101
Random ramblings of grunginess
Poverty Control
I love (no, not really, I just appreciate) how Gaia echoes real life. For instance, everyone starts out with the same amount and kind of items, and the same amount of gold. Yet, some newbies remain poor a month after they join, and some are filthy rich. Why? They were given the SAME advantages and opportunities...yet, people are different. Some work extremely hard to make their cash, others make it having fun, and others are extremely talented at parlaying a little cash into a lot very quickly, by making shrewd investments and gambling wisely. Yet others are morons and do not know how to play the game, yet they yearn after expensive crap and are jealous of their peers who rise so much faster than they.

Equal opportunity does NOT mean that people are equal. While I have no desire to make a filthy rich person richer, I don't condone forcing him to give half his wealth to a moron. Nor, if morons could starve in this game, do I want morons to die hungry and helpless on the street - but by no means should they be supported continously as burdens on the state. Let private charities take care of them, let the morons learn and become wise. Poverty can be controlled, but a war on poverty? Might as well make it a war on stupidity. Put non-working adults, who are capable and yet refuse to earn their daily meal, under a threat and at least half of the poverty problem would vanish. We get away with so much crap because we are allowed to. If we had a vicious authoritarian state instead of the slowly encroaching nanny state, who of us would be sitting on our asses watching TV and feeding off a welfare check??
