It was a new dawn something had truly changed last night. It had been yet to be proven that the dawn was a light one. Jareth arose in an elaborately decorated bed, if it could be called such. A large draping canopy fell all around him, cutting out all outside disturbances. He rubbed his eyes, he couldn’t remember the past nights events after the judgment ceremony. He moved to part the canopy knocking into something beside him as he turned. He looked down to see that it had been the girl, Ariel. He gasped holding back any sudden movements to awaken her he was very concerned now. A large raspy yawn came from outside the canopy it was Twig. Jareth hurried without making too much disturbance to exit the bed. As he tumbled onto the soft-carpeted rug he herd a hearty laughter. “What the hell happened to you? Where are your clothes…?” Jareth arose to find that he was merely draped in nothing but silk red undergarments, comfortable as they were, they did not suffice to help with his concern about what had happened in the past night. Twig parted the canopy curiously but was intercepted quickly, Jareth tackled him both of them tumbling to the ground. “What? I was just trying to see exactly what you were doing… Or who?” Twig asked sarcastically his voice close to an out bursting laughter. Jareth rose himself from the floor grabbing his clothes of which were scattered across the floor along with a female’s clothing of which he decided to ask no questions and dress himself quickly. Twig picked up a small dress examining it thoroughly, “Isn’t this…” Twig sentence was quickly interrupted, “No! No it isn’t!” Twig decided to pry no further into the situation knowing full well he wouldn’t like the result. “Easy little slut isn’t she…?” He whispered under his breath coughing into his hand a small roach and throwing it into the canopy while Jareth struggled frantically to dress himself. “3… 2… 1…” He spoke under his breath, after he reached one a blaring shriek emitted from the inside of the canopy. Jareth quickly tied his robe and was out the large elaborately decorated door like a scared animal slamming the door as he left.
Twig smiled eyeing the canopy; he knew this would be quite a comical experience. She emerged, the face of rage, pushing a large silk blanket against her chest breathing heavily. “You… I’ll kill you!” She held the blanket with one hand, exposing a blazing fist ready to shoot off like a rocket. Twig walked closer, even through his long cloak a wide smile could be seen. He held up a dark hand towards her, she stepped back hesitant to his next move. With a gentle downward flick of his wrist the blanket fell exposing her also red silk under garments lined with gold trim. Twig burst out into laughter rolling on the floor, he could hardly help himself it was hilarious. She growled furiously stepping lightly over to his position of helpless hilarity. When she stood over him he stopped eying her suspiciously, a wide grin ran across her face. In one swift action a leg, then foot, came up and down onto his mid area. Twig cringed, bugs screeched from under his cloak. She gave him one more swift kick to the face watching him hold his crotch and cheek in a look of pain. She felt partially complete as she continued to dress herself; there was still one more issue that needed to be addressed.
Guards watched as Jareth slammed the door barring it with him breathing heavily. “Everything alright in there?” One of the guards, a stout man, said heartily. “Did last night bring sweet rewards?” The man laughed deeply. Jareth sneered at the man. He had gained a significant disgust for sarcastic comments. The man straitened up quickly, wiping the smile from his face. “Is there anything I can do for you lord?” Jareth relaxed as he heard a few sounds of contact between his two companions, he had a few minutes. “When they come out… Don’t tell them where I have gone, and where should I go next?” The man swiftly pointed down the hall, “Just walk down that hall, it will lead you to who you need to meet next.” Jareth nodded deciding not to ask any questions because the sounds in the room were settling down. He began walking quickly down the hall.
Ariel continued pushing her foot down on Twig’s face, “What happened and where is he?” Her words were stern, “I don’t know… Leave me alone you b***h!” She picked up her foot kicking him across the face one more time before leaving him groaning on the floor. She exited out the doors to the guards. She closed the doors daintily putting on an act so they wouldn’t ask any questions. Even with her innocent act the men stood uncomfortably as if expecting an attack at any moment. “Good morning gentlemen, where did the young lord go?” The stout man cringed at the question, which drew her attention. “We… Don’t know where he is…” His words shook nervously. She grew impatient with them grabbing the stout man and pinning him up against the wall. She held up her other hand up threatening him with the burning flame. “I… He… Went down the hall but… The hall goes different places for different people… It takes them where they need to go… Not where they want to.” She threw him aside as he tumbled into his friend. They both came down hard on the carpeted hall, neither of them got back up. She walked down the hall knowing exactly where she needed to go.
Jareth walked down the dark musty hall reflecting upon his life, if that is what he truely thought it was. He didn’t understand why he regretted Garred’s death it weighed on his conscious unbearably. He felt as though two people were warring in his mind and heart, fighting for his morality. On one hand the kill invigorated him, gave him a twisted pleasure. In the other he felt a great remorse for his actions, he never wanted to hurt anyone before. That part of him was slowly dissipating, leaving him only his dark desires. He shook his head watching his feet move beneath him and stroking his chin. His attention was drawn quickly by the illumination of a large fire. As he looked up he found himself in a lounge, dark with two high-backed cushion chairs. He saw that a frail woman was sitting in one of the two chairs. The figure coughed bringing a hand to her face. Jareth’s curiosity arose as he sat in the remaining chair, staring deeply into the flames. An old voice, raspy and worn, spoke to him. “How does it feel?” Jareth continued staring into the fire, never averting his eyes he replied. “I feel different, I feel like there are a lot of things I should question about myself.” A chuckle came from the woman as she spoke again, “You sound like someone else I once knew. Did you know that they believe your father was always there? That he was always the king of hell since the beginning of its existence, from the beginning of everything. Such a silly notion, lord Asmodeus is no god he is nothing more then a fiend. He is different yes because he challenges the stereotype. Many mortals believed fiends, demons and devils alike were both unable to establish themselves as anything more then animals. Your father, I knew him when he was young many millennia ago. When the devils and demons had first established themselves as separate beings. He was expected to lead the devils, establish them as the dominant race.”
There was a pause although Jareth still never averted his eyes from the fire he listened intently. She began again, “I sat with him, like we are now. I sat with him watching the hell fires burn. I asked him the same question I asked you, and he responded the same way. He questioned himself, he wanted power more than anything else he knew this. But the way he was attaining it disturbed him at first, just as it is disturbing you. You must understand that fate has dealt you a hand, which is what you have to work with. You could run away from all of this, but that would not be who you are. You are a devil at heart. You will desire power until the day that you die. There will always be people, beings that will aid you. You are not alone, you will never be alone.” Her voice rang in his mind. He didn’t know what to think of her speech. The fire began to fade a bit and Jareth turned to look over the woman who preached to him. As he turned he realized he looked upon nothing more then an empty chair, flickering with the light of the fire. He sat alone in the dimly lit darkness, but for how long? He looked back to the fire, deeply disturbed.
Ariel emerged to the dimly lit lounge, looking upon the fireplace and the two chairs. She herd a deep sigh from behind the chair, she had him now. She stepped quickly around the chair, there sat Jareth sitting hypnotized by his own thoughts he didn’t notice her. As she was about to strike him, she stopped. She sensed his sadness and confusion. His face painted in a sullen and bleak tone. She sat on the arm of his chair draping him in her arms, holding him close. “What happened?” She spoke quietly, but her voice was loud in the silent room. He did not shake or jump to her voice, his eyes merely rolled to meet hers. “I listened and I learned things from someone who was never really there, she told me I’m never alone… She said that I couldn’t escape what I am.” She pulled him closer like a child protecting an old toy form being taken away. He let his neck fall limp in her arms. She made him feel comfortable, a feeling he was rarely having nowadays. He spoke slowly, “I don’t want to be alone… Don’t ever leave me…” He wrapped his arms around her waist burying his head in her arms. “I… I won’t… I’ll keep you safe.” She felt awkward for the moment she had never felt like this before. They sat holding each other in the dark, it was silent but so many things were being said.
