My face filled with disgust. Some other girl had sunken her “claws” into Maxx. This is not happening. I thought. I just stood there watching this girl, whom I didn’t know, was hugging Maxx pretty passionately. I felt like my eyes were about to pop out of my head. This girl had short black hair, and her green eyes were sparkling in delight. I felt like punching her. She was just a tad shorter than Maxx and me.
She turned her head to me. “Oh, hello, I’m Lee Ann.” She said to me.
“I’m Sora.” I said through gritted teeth and a forced smile. She finally let go of Maxx. He stayed emotionless on his face so I had no idea what he thought of the ordeal. He did look like he was just to it though. “Do you, um, know each other?” I directed to Maxx and this Lee Ann girl.
“Of course, we’ve known each other for a long time.” She smiled at Maxx. He still looked emotionless on his face. She was majorly flirting with Maxx, and I couldn’t stand it.
“Cut out the act. She knows.” Maxx said coldly, not even looking at Lee Ann.
Lee Ann looked very confused and said, “You let down your guard and let this petty girl know your secret?” I was really fuming now.
“We’re not here for that.” Maxx explained the details of the crystal in the lake to Lee Ann.
“That’s not a problem. I will just raise the ground from the bottom of the lake.” She smiled.
“And what about the water?” I asked her in a smart-alky tone. She gave me a mean glare.
“The point is, none of our magic with work when it comes to water.” Maxx said. “That’s why we need some sort of spell or something from the school.” He walked off around the building. Lee Ann and I followed him.
“What’s your problem?” Lee Ann hissed when Maxx was out of hearing range.
“Huh?” I stammered.
“Stop trying to interfere with mine and Maxx’s love.” She hissed.
“What?” I blinked. Instead of answering me, she ran up to Maxx and held his arm. Then she put her head on his shoulder. This didn’t seem to bother him. In fact, he had a smile on his face.
I was really feeling sick now. I stopped dead in my tracks and looked at my feet. At first I saw her as an enemy, then a rival, but now… I realized that maybe I wasn’t going to win Maxx. That maybe she had already won the war, and I had lost. I put my hand on the school’s brick wall, and a single tear fell to the ground. Yeah, I lost. I thought.
